Revisiting the Cooper world after learning about the New Eric Ulis suspect. Was surprised there wasn't much chatter here about it. And it seems Eric doesn't post here much anymore(?)

What are everyone's thoughts on Vince Petersen? My takeaways are as follows:

1. He is unique in the sense that he is really the first suspect to actually be connected to any physical evidence.

2. I'd like to see a photo of him taken closer to the time of the hijacking. I've seen 2 photos --- one taken 12 years before the hijacking and one taken 20+ years after. Not sure what the deal is with that.

3. History of smoking and drinking?

4. Did he have a criminal mind? Was he the type of guy that would do something like this?

5. Eric said the former supervisor named Vince and only Vince as the guy to look into among the 8 who worked in that department. Did Eric look into the other 7 guys as well?

6. I tried to find an obituary of this guy but had no luck. Anyone else?

For those of you who were at CooperCon, what was the general reaction/response to Eric's unveiling of this new suspect?

Petersen wasn't the only new suspect, Milton Vordahl was also connected to the particles. The big discussions are on the DZ and the Facebook group.

Im not sure why the titanium is only being linked to aircraft as its used very often in surgeries and in medical field.  The picture situation you mention is very important. Lets see what Tina Mucklow says about him?  Or Flo if anyone can find her. (without here slamming a door in ones face?).  The smoking and drinking may not be a big deal because whether the guy is  true smoker and drinker does not mean he could not have just done it during the crime?  Maybe to throw off the cops?  He would not have worried about DNA then and obviously the FBI did not either.  The cigarettes had at the very least, souvenir value then and later they would have been gold.  It would have either cleared or identified one of the known suspects and told us if it was truly one of them or certainly not one of them.  Now we have no idea.  I think its more likely Jack the Ripper is solved than Cooper right now. Unless one believes in Gryder's case.  It's not without merit.

Gryder jumped the shark with his latest McCoy video, claiming that he actually found the chute Cooper used. He has lost all credibility and no one should give any credence to anything he puts out Cooper related.

This is what I know about Vince Petersen.

1)   VP has a direct link to the TiSb alloy, which to the best of my knowledge could only be found at Rem-Cru Titanium/Crucible Steel.
2)   VP extensively researched and wrote about the corrosive effects of salt on titanium, which may be an explanation for the large amount of salt found upon DBC’s tie.
3)   VP was 6’ 1” tall and 52 y/o at the time of the heist, which is consistent with witness (Tina, Flo, Alice, Hal) testimony.
4)   VP was the only person who traveled to Boeing with the former supervisor—this according to the former supervisor. Moreover, VP was on the Boeing production floor.
5)   VP is the only person that his former supervisor pointed to as matching DBC’s description.
6)   DBC’s tie was manufactured between 1962 – 1964, and likely purchased between 1963 – 1965.
7)   The Rem-Cru/Crucible’s Robinson titanium research lab in the Pittsburgh area opened in 1964.
8)   VP and his family moved to the Pittsburgh area from Midland, PA in 1964.
9)   Boeing’s 727—for which there are a significant number of Rem-Cru/Crucible parts—first flew in 1963 and entered service in 1964.
10)   According to his son, VP was not a smoker—at least during the 60s and 70s. Interestingly, VP would purchase cigarettes for his then-underage son.
11)   VP was a light drinker of alcohol.
12)   VP was described by his longtime neighbor as aloof and as a person who kept to himself.
13)   VP regularly wore a tie, tie-bar, and cufflinks to work.
14)   VP and his wife were not spendthrifts. VP’s son described his childhood as one whereby he felt money was tight.
15)   According to his longtime neighbor, VP briefly grew a beard. I do not know when this happened, but they were neighbors from 1965 – 1987.
16)   VP was an avid hiker.
17)   VP’s son said that he cannot see his father having been DBC. Additionally, the son stated that he always knew his father to be an honest person.
18)   VP passed away in 2002.
Some men see things as they are, and ask why? I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?

Murder case solved using just 15 cells of DNA. I’m sure you are all familiar with just how little dna that is. I’ve spoke with Mr. Mittleman before. He was very interested in the Cooper Hijacking. Everybody here would like him, he is very down to earth and humble. He is an emerging Rock Star in the Science/Forensics community.

Let’s keep this thread and Forum about DB Cooper please.

OK Chaucer.  Sorry to do this but I am going off topic just for a moment since there is not much going on in the Cooper world at the moment.

So do you believe Arthur Leigh Allen is a strong Zodiac suspect?  I have seen some of the research.  I think I would tend to doubt its him?

Put me down SOLIDLY in the corner of Charles Allen Lechmere being Jack The Ripper.  Kosinski is the only other viable suspect but far more holes can be shot in the case for him.   I really believe it was Lechmere.  The guy looks like a monster to boot.

Try to answer the Zodiac question without a scolding about "off topic".  I am a long standing member of some other forums, and I understand the protocol.  But this breaks up a rather boring and desperate search that is now at another standstill.  Referring to DB.  Who was probably a bit more lucky than good. But he was certainly ahead of his time. You cant do anything in this new world of electronics.  But of course if we lose power/electricity, we are back to square one. Gas generators and batteries will get you so far.

I think I am getting a motion trail camera for Xmas.  Anyone here have any thoughts on the best one under $200?  Right now Im leaning Spypoint.  Its for wildlife detection.  Not to find Cooper.  Sure Id rather have a drone, but my son in law just crashed his.

I'm not Chaucer, but I'll take a stab at this. ALA is the McCoy of the Zodiac case. He was strongly investigated, to the point that if he were Zodiac, it would have been closed long ago. Jack the Ripper is too old to solve at this point. These are just my opinions.
I would agree with this. When someone first becomes interested in the Zodiac case, they almost always begin with the idea that ALA is the killer - primarily because of Graysmith’s books. Spend a little time seriously researching the case, and you realize that he was eliminated as a suspect 25 years ago based upon DNA, fingerprints, handwriting, and witness statements.

But as with many Cooper suspects, people ignore obvious evidence to shill for certain people.
Are you still sleuthing the Zodiac case?  If so, how is it going?  This is first time I have logged in here in a while.  Has Bruce popped in at all?  Later

I'm dabbling in the Zodiac case now. The Cooper thing has my full attention at the moment.

Bruce finished his sojourn to the Caribbean and is back in the States. He tells me he is doing well.

I saw that Tom Voigt was at the most recent Cooper Con. Does he have a POI in regards to Cooper that you're aware of? Seems like someone (maybe Nick) mentioned that Voigt had moved on from Gaikowski as Zodiac. A bit surprising if that is the case, he was all in on Gaik for quite a while.

I have not heard that Tom had moved on from Gaikowski, but it wouldn't surprise me. Both Tom and his wife are now firmly in the Vortex. That's a good thing because Tom has a wealth of connections with law enforcement and lives in the PNW.

Thanks.  Tell him Rick from Upstate NY says hi if you talk to him again soon please.  I know Long Island is one of his destinations.  I went up to Montauk summer before last.  I am going to see my Orioles in Tampa in June. Going to hit Treasure Island.  Never been there to that part of Florida but I have been to much of it. I wish you all luck in this pursuit that I know feel is pretty much a long shot at best. I think the Zodiac and even the Ripper case are more solvable. And maybe even Xavier Dupont Le Digones in France?  The guy who pulled a John List crime in Nantes.  I personally believe he is dead now.

DBfan57 - If you haven't done so already, you should check out the Vanished podcast that Chris Williamson does. He did a series on Cooper a while back, and before that did a series on Jack the Ripper. He's finishing up his series on Zodiac right now. I don't typically agree with his final conclusion, but it's a very unique and interesting podcast just the same. Highly recommend.

Thanks.  Ill check it out.

When I made that recommendation I had yet to listen to the Zodiac episodes. I have to be honest, they fall short of the DB Cooper episodes. There were a lot of great guests on the Cooper episodes and it was really good. The Zodiac episodes got some things wrong, especially the ladies they had on from the Sirens podcast. They didn't seem to be very knowledgeable on the case and got some things wrong. The other criticism I would have (and I have this criticism on a lot of things related to Zodiac) is that very little time was spent on the confirmed Zodiac killings and way too much time was spent on murders that have never been confirmed to be Zodiac crimes. Still worth a listen though.
