Speculation can often confuse and weaken things. you can't really learn from speculation. that's like being told you think 2 + 2 = 5.

Yes, lots of speculation is in this case. if you use it you need to try and back it up. we have a vault loaded with a lot of questions that can be answered. it takes time to try and get up to speed with others since so much is to be learned weeding out a lot of false claims or speculation some read about the case. nothing wrong with discussing what might be in the mystery bag Cooper had but what will it achieve in solving the case. was any of the copycats caught with first aid kits and survival gear? not a lot of criminals think that far ahead.

If he had goggles and gloves where do we go from there. did that make his jump successful? so many things can go wrong.

I've been at this for years and I'm still not sold he made it. it's a strong possibility he did but just can't call it.

People think I'm foolish to try a test surrounding the placard. I want to see how the torn placard reacts to one that isn't damaged. others need different data from the test. this is being kept off the board for now. I've been grounded for two weeks and currently underwater. we got over 12 inches of rain dropped in a very short period. as of today a lot of the water has disappeared. the winds are a factor as well.
Although it’s pure speculation as to what was in the bag Cooper brought aboard, it’s clearly factual that he did bring it aboard and he didn’t leave it on plane. So I think it’s common sense to speculate that he brought it with him for a reason. If anyone thinks he brought an empty bag aboard, that’s being naive! JMHO   Also he did come up with a knife in which he used to cup parachute ropes. Nobody observed a knife on his person so it’s not preposterous to speculate it could have easily came from the mysterious bag ! So I ask the question why should we not assume that perhaps he brought bag along for a reason. I think again it’s just Common sense To assume the bag contained something ! So what do I feel this all could possibly contribute to the case ? Well for one thing so many people assume Cooper jumped into the cold damp night in sandals and almost certainly met certain death as he was so unprepared ! To me that’s total speculation also ! Do we know that to be factual ? The existence of the bag tells me that it’s ALSO very possible that he did come far more prepared than the FBI had ASSUMED ! To me it’s all about how you look at something. I’m on jury duty next month here in Lewis County. I’d like to think I would enter any trial with an open mind. Many cold cases are solved by detectives having inquiring minds ! The existence of Cooper’s bag is fair game to wonder why he brought it and what COULD have been in it !
Just my 2 cents worth Shutter but I’m very interested in your placard testing and I applaud your efforts !
Unknown to many posters here I’ve done a few things regarding this case and will quietly try to continue to do so.
Due to the spirally acceleration of Coronavirus Cases here in Cooper country and my age, I’m staying pretty inactive.
Hopefully I will be attending the 50 th anniversary of the Cooper Caper in person next year ! Stay Safe !

The knife can easily be from pockets. "pocket knife" gloves, googles are more of a common thing that couldn't fit well in his pockets. although gloves could fit in his jacket. not sure what a altimeter would do in the dark? what ever was in the bag was something that pockets couldn't handle. boots would fill the bag.

The testing...I'm very curious to how the placard will react or fall with a large tear in the center. I have a feeling they will be much different to a square piece falling. of course I can't replicate a 30 plus MPH wind to see what actually happens to the placard. just trying to get some sort of idea how it acts. the winds have died down a lot to where I'm thinking of testing the drop function.I'm now concerned with the box I made that holds the placards. it's metal. I hope it doesn't block the signal to the remote.

I think as long as I have the drone away from me and not under it the remote should be okay for the signal to reach..

Just a quick heads up to Shutter on his inquiry as to what possible help would an altimeter do for Cooper. Absolutely no help to Cooper unless he’s familar with area ! HOWEVER like I have said many times I always carried a compass and Altimiter on every hunting trip. Being very familiar with the area Always made it impossible to get lost !  I have no Knowledge Whether Cooper had any knowledge or maps BUT I also have no knowledge that he didn’t ! The compass and altimiter I carried were both small German made that easily fit in my pockets. Any experienced outdoorsman pretty much always carries BOTH when hiking in Wilderness areas ! Maybe it’s just me ?

The altimeter would be used for deploying the chute. nothing related to the ground other than where it is from his point.

Excuse me ! An Altimiter is used to measure altitude above sea level ! Perhaps you and I are on different pages ?
I’ve climbed up both the Matterhorn and Sacajawea Peaks in the Wallowa mountains in Eastern Oregon. My Altimiter always coincided almost exactly with elevation maps !

They use altimeters a lot? they measure the altitude where they in reference to the ground..I think every jumper uses one?

Skydiving altimeters work barometrically, determining altitude above a pre-set point using changes in atmospheric pressure. (This is why they're also called "pressure altimeters.") The relationship is very simple: the greater the altitude, the lower the pressure.

Life saving equipment...note how he watches the altimeter when his chute malfunctions..

Here a student does a jump and you will see how just moving his arm to pull put him into a spin to where the instructor pulled for him.. must of been shitting his pants..

I watch these videos, and it underscores how dangerous and difficult skydiving is. The idea that anyone can just jump out of an airplane at 10,000 feet and survive like it's no big deal is bananas.

Cooper's jump wasn't easy. At all. For a novice, it would likely be deadly.

See you there, Kermit! Glad to hear you're staying close to home and keeping safe. Me, too. Covid and forest fire smoke have been one hellava one-two punch. I'm feeling like a monk living in a mountaintop monastery who only comes down to town for gorceries.

A skydiver is interested in his altitude above the drop zone and probably has an altimeter that can be adjusted to zero the drop zone elevation.  Cooper would not have any idea of the elevation of the terrain when he jumped due to the clouds below him and the darkness.

Correct, the other question would be can you see them good enough in the dark if they worked properly?
