Okay, Georger. What would you say are the primary reasons the FBI has been unable to solve the case? Further, how would you characterize the FBI and its investigatory skills in general? What does the FBI do well? What not so well?

You might likewise ask why doctors cant cure every disease, known only to God!  ;)  Vs. you who cures nothing!

Your whole premise is wrong and biased. You might as well be asking 'why were women equipped with only one reproductive system vs three, for the convenience of the opposite sex!'

...the dare-devils and stoned-out hippie parachutists... Ever talk to a skydiver who enjoys parachuting naked? Or in the snow? Or only wearing flip-flops?

Hey! I resembled those remarks!  Ha!

(resemble / resent ...   resemble?)

-----------

As for the flip-flops - You gotta put a rubber band around the center thing, then over your big toe. Or else they blow off!

No, Georger, it's a fair question. What did the FBI do well during their 45-year investigation, and what didn't they do well?

You are one of the billions of people on this planet that ask the same question every day, not just about the FBI but about every human institution and global events that happen every second of every day . .  .  trying to reduce complexity to something simple (and profound). BTW, Tina doesnt have the answers to that either!  ;)

What is the problem with the FBI in the DB Cooper case?

I got asked that question today by a reporter doing a story on DBC. Here is my email reply:

"You asked me for the Number One Thing the FBI got wrong with Cooper, or their biggest institutional problem. There is no "one thing." The FBI is simply not well-equipped to solve the DB Cooper case. They don't solve innovative, bold and unique crimes. It's not in their organization structure, nor their cultural DNA, to do so.

"In part it's the dot issue: so many dots, so few analysts to connect them. Every large LE agency has that problem, along with the intelligence services. Besides a lack of "Dot Connectors" they don't have the mid-level supervision to maximize what they do have. Plus, they are crippled psychologically as an organization. The FBI was SHOCKED that Cooper jumped. Most agents expected him to be on the plane even though Tina saw him with a parachute on and the pilots told the Air Traffic Controllers when the plane bounced from his jumping. Still, the FBI didn't REALLY believe them, probably because most agents couldn't imagine themselves doing the jump - it was too dark, too rainy, too cold, too many trees. They forgot that guys make a living skydiving under those very conditions every darn day - commandos and smokejumpers; plus, don't forget the dare-devils and stoned-out hippie parachutists, etc.

"Ever talk to a skydiver who enjoys parachuting naked? Or in the snow? Or only wearing flip-flops. No? Well, nobody in the FBI ever did either. It's called: wearing cultural blinders. The FBI has a societal ignorance of who actually lives in our world.

"Lastly, the FBI has a unique arrogance. Everybody in LE with whom I have raised the question hates the FBI - DEA agents, city cops, Sheriff deputies. It's important to remember the inside joke that FBI agent John Douglas, I believe, famously said: "Inside the FBI we know that we can convict anyone. It's just that the innocent take longer.'"

Bruce

Bruce, I think that you have succeded in not only burning the bridges behind you but also the bridges in front of you.  Congratulations!

Thank you, Robert. Maybe I can get a little funding from the feds for bridge repair in that Infrastructure Deal, eh?

But the question is still on the table: What did the FBI do well, and what didn't it do well in its Norjak investigation.

Georger is clearly unable to answer in any cogent manner.

Anyone else willing to give it a go?

Obviously losing or destroying the cigarette butts was a major mistake. It likely made the case unprosecutable. .
Also a mistake to not preserve the tie in its original condition allowing many to handle it.

They did lots right. Looking at skydivers as a pool of possible suspects was a good call as was looking at military freefall jumpers.

Wasting time on Jo Weber was a mistake. If I were the SAC I’d have taken a look at Duane’s prominent protruding ears and directed my agents to look elsewhere.

Canada has closed the border due to the Delta variant of Covid-19. No estimate on when it will re-open. Stay tuned.

I seldom see any masks here, nor have I heard of any new cases of Covid. I'm sure there are some, but I don't think there's a lot. If you had no knowledge of the pandemic, you certainly wouldn't be able to tell that there ever was one by hanging around East Tennessee. Things are as close to normal as they have been since the whole thing started.

All time heat records are being set here in Washington and Oregon ! It’s Noon here and temperature is already at 105 and predicted to hit 113. Our Air Conditioner went out and repairman was out this morning. The cause apparently was a 31/2 inch salamander who got fried while shorting out a key part !

Hot here, but not scorching as of yet. rainy season is here and still have a breeze to cool things down. once the breeze is gone, the madness begins.

Thanks, 377.

There's more than cigs missing. The hair sample is also gone, I believe. The mags, too. Worse, how about those money shards that Dorwin put in the Plasticine envelopes at T-Bar. They'e been missing for a long time.

And the fingerprints? Never resolved, it appears.

This was the hottest day I've ever seen. Nuclear-level intensity. Locally, we hit 103 in Eatonville, but Puyallup - just north of here - posted 110. A bigger problem is the smoke is beginning to come in. Not sure where the fires are, but the western slopes of the Cascades are under extreme fire alerts.
