According to the Obituary, Mayfield was 37 years old on the night of the hijacking. Once some time has passed, perhaps the family could share some photos of when he was younger. It would be nice to make a tribute page for him, as a perennial Cooper suspect and the man who inserted himself into the investigation before the flight landed in Reno.

LD Cooper has been a bit of a mystery. I don't think an actual description of him can be found..I also uncovered a birth issue which had Marla question his birth as well.

His headstone gives a date of 9-17-31. I found records stating 9-17-33..military, school,marriage license etc. I believe he has brown eye's, and black hair.....not sure though. I'll see what else I can dig up. I have extensive records of him. LD was the first thing I started checking on coming into the Cooper story... his brother was born 8-11-31, so we have a conflict...

More on LD...

On the 1940 census LD was 6 (census was in April of 1940, so that means that LD would have been 7 in September of 1940 - putting him born in 1933). Dewey was 8 yrs old on that census.

One reference that I've seen puts LD's birthdate as September 12, 1933. So not real sure about the day, but the month is most likely September and the year is most likely 1933.

Maybe he lied about his age at some point or --more likely -- whoever he was with at the time of death gave the wrong information to the funeral home and they got lazy and didn't double check it or didn't go back and fix it once they realized it was wrong. "

Don't hold your breath, Andrade. The family and friends of Ted Mayfield are hard-core believers of their truth, which doesn't hold that Ted ever did anything wrong. Similarly, they have no patience for the DB Cooper crowd.

He seems a principled person who abhors violence which is why I have trouble picturing him threatening to kill an airliner crew with a purported bomb.
