One - I'm not saying this to disagree or argue with what has been said, I don't buy Recca as a suspect either, but to one isolated point - A couple of you said that it's ridiculous for a truck driver to pick someone up on a road and remember it 50 years later. Not necessarily. If the driver picks up the guy and helps with that phone call, then in the following days/weeks/months Cooper is all over the news and the driver thinks 'was that him?', that could well imprint on his memory.

One small correction. I don't disagree with your point, but I think the story is that the truck driver drove on past Reca and a few minutes later, Reca came into the little restaurant where the truck driver had stopped. I don't think he claims to have picked him up. Bruce can correct if I am mistaken.

...However, there isn’t any real evidence that Cooper was an experienced skydiver. He could have been some Joe Blow off the street who attended a couple of trainings to get the basics...

Chaucer, how would you rate knowing that the 727 could be flown with the aft stairs deployed?
Well, for one thing, knowledge of the operation of devices aboard a plane doesn’t indicate experience skydiving. It just means he knows a bit about airplanes.

Second, there’s no evidence that Cooper KNEW the plane could be flown with the stairs deployed, we only know he BELIEVED they could be. There’s a difference between having actual knowledge of the operation of the stairs and simply having a layman’s belief that it could be done. Remember, Cooper eventually relented.

I’m not saying Cooper was a mouth-breathing dolt, but I think we have to consider the possibility that he was an average guy with a huge set of balls with a talent for planning and preparation.

You are correct, Parrot. That is the scenario that Jeff Osaidacz is describing. I had first heard that Jeff had picked Reca up on the road, and that's what I have written, but it is incorrect according to the current story.

Oh, Chaucer, ya gotta factor in all the other stuff, too! 15 degrees on the flaps, landing gear down and locked, fly no higher than 10K, don't go faster than 200 mph. All that stuff is not indicative of an average guy.

Plus three- five hours with the passengers and Tina, and even keeping his cool when a fight breaks out? An average guy???

Nice job on the show Bruce.  I do not buy that this confidence man Reca is DB.  McCoy looks more like him than Reca.  Not him either.  Cooper did not die that night.  No way in hell.  As for the drop zone, there are just too many scenarios to really know with accuracy.  And like you said, you cant believe a thing that the only living guy in the cockpit says.  The never ending mystery never ends.  Kind of like JFK, but at least in that one we know one guy that was shooting.  The arrogant FBI just wont admit defeat. Rather say he died in the jump when they have no evidence that he did.  Nice going Tom Kaye to publicly call the FBI "wrong".  Amen to that.  And nice detective work by EU.  So Gates's celebration is a bit of show.  No brief case, no dynamite sticks, and no DB Cooper.  And on it goes.

Well, now we’re talking about two different things. Originally it was discussion his expertise at skydiving. There’s little evidence of that.

The examples you supplied have more to do with the operation of the plane. However, none of those things require any advanced training. It only requires research and planning. Something any of us could do if we were inclined to skyjack and airliner.

I’m not sure what spending any time with Tina has to do with it. Lastly, the “keeping his cool thing”. He’s trying to acquire 200,000 bucks and survive a perilous jump. You’re not going to lose your head in that situation. You’re going to stay calm and collected and focus on the task at hand. Again, that doesn’t require a specially trained super soldier. Just a huge set of nuts (or nothing to lose) and a talent for planning and preparation.

Yes, I'm still here but have been busy in the hurricane industry. I've been contracted by a company I've worked for in the past to handle the permitting dealing with the city and meet the inspectors on jobsites to insure the job passes inspection. I was a little rusty when it comes to engineering and wind loads and had to hit the books to bring myself back up to speed.

The Historical Society reached out to me last week explaining they are busy building new exhibits. I also had to wait to hear from the new office manager who gives the okay with allowing the chute to be opened for inspection. I'm waiting for a response from them. If they agree, Bruce, I will need your assistance with help getting the job done. this will also be a good article for your website.

It sounds like they will allow this to happen. if so, I need Bruce to take the lead on what needs to take place. I will send all the information required to make things go smoothly. they will be very specific detailing the steps needed. once the green light is given I will call you during the process and email all the details.

I have reached out to them several times during the pandemic and was told to hold off until they open and the last email months ago was when they told me a new office manager was coming in and she gives the yes or no. she reached out to me last week and I responded. so, it's a waiting game.

Shutter, it would probably be a good idea for a certified rigger to open the chute and determine what canopy is installed plus the appropriate serial numbers and other identifying data for the canopy, harness, container, and pilot chute.  Also, lots and lots of pictures of all the items so that we can get this parachute nonsense finished.  Perhaps the rigger could come online here and explain what he/she has observed.

While the rigger may or may not be agreeable to repacking the chute, I doubt very much that he/she is going to sign the repacking card of a 50+ year old parachute to indicate that it is serviceable.  It will probably just be repacked and put back on display at WSHM.

It would be nice if a rigger on this site could be there to observe the whole process.  Multiple witnesses reduce the possibility of misinformation.  Perhaps EU could get Larry Carr to observe the whole process.  Even if Carr is not packing heat and wearing his former badge, just everyone knowing that he is former FBI might increase the probability of the whole process being done correctly.

I have a certified rigger to do the job...I'm in Florida, naturally, I need someone to take control of the operation with me in the background.

I contacted a rigger close to the museum that is willing to repack the chute. this was found very early in the process last year.

I'm sure they will be very protective of the chute. that's why I'm making sure it's done right and they will be right there during the process. all the information about the rigger and reasons for the inspection will be detailed to the new office manager. I made it very clear last year that a professional rigger will be in charge of the chute.

Good News - 3rd Edition

I just signed a contract with Moonshine Cove Publishing today for DB Cooper and the FBI - 3rd Edition. Nat Loufoque is doing the line and interior editing, so it should be good to go in the near future. I'm hoping it will be ready for sales at CC21.

Anybody do graphics for the Internet, or books? Or know of anyone?
I need a few graphics for the book - such as the Flight Paths, T-Bar, etc. Happy to pay a fair price.

Cooper Documentary

There's another one about to air; this time on FOX, as part of FOX NATION. It's part of the Brad Meltzer's "World's Greatest Conspiracies," series. I believe it will broadcast on August 22 in the evening.

Although Meltzer will make everyone groan at the beginning of the show as he doubles-down on Kenny C as DBC and touts RMB's book, the show is actually a delightful compendium of facts and insights delivered by Tom Kaye - who is superb - and your truly.

BTW: According to Meltzer, DB Cooper is #3 on the list of the Top Ten conspiracies.

There is no evidence of Cooper being involved in any conspiracy.  So Meltzer must be introducing conspiracies by other people.
