Yeah, the 2016 Lodi incident. Lodi is a long-running dz in central/northern California. Bill Dause, the owner, has been around forever and is one of the top 3 or so in total jump numbers in the world, not sure but I think the last I heard was over 40 thousand or something. He's certainly been a controversial figure in the sport, with plenty of fans as well as detractors. Lodi has a bit of a, shall we say, checkered history. He has been cited for not keeping the airplane maintenance up to date. A lot of experienced jumpers like the place because his prices are low. That also attracts a lot of students, both AFF and tandem. The experienced jumpers know what they're getting into, the students not so much. He does keep newer, well maintained tandem rigs. For tandem students, it's kind of luck-of-the-draw as to who their instructor is. Younger TI's especially full-time ones, tend to move around from dz to dz when they want a change of scenery. This particular instructor was, if I remember correctly, kind of newer with not a whole lot of experience. He had been through a course for his tandem instructor rating, but the course director's Examiner rating had lapsed. There turned out to be a number of TI's who had to re-certify because of that.

This particular jump, and you can see it in the video, the drogue did not inflate. He should have tried to deploy the main canopy anyways (the drogue then functions as the pilot chute). That most likely would have worked. Even if not, that should have allowed the main to at least come out of the container, then he could have cut it away (not with a knife, but by pulling the cutaway handle, as used in all main malfunctions). Instead, he just dumped the reserve, which unfortunately entangled with the drogue, which prevented it from opening. Sad indeed.

His DZ was raided a few years back and some speculated it had to do with DB. Dudeman are you back jumping at elsinore yet? We have to get together one of these days and talk norjack!

I don't understand. All the people in Vortex tell me how easy and safe skydiving is, and that all Cooper had to do was pull the ripcord to survive....

IMO, and not being an experienced jumper tends to believe every jump is different or unique. according to Dudeman the accident/death shown in the video might of been or could of had a different outcome. each person will react different in a panic situation. it appears you have to troubleshoot fast. pulling the cord might turn out not being so easy while in a panic. you can be on the battlefield for 8 months and stick your head above ground and it's over that quick. something routine can go horribly wrong ending in tragedy.

Wyatt Earp always said "you need to take your time in a hurry." this was proven effective in two gun fights. one being the OK Corral and the other with Curly Bill. Earp had buckshot and bullet holes on both sides of his overcoat. one shot hit his boot heel and his saddle horn was shot off. he shot Curly from over the top of his horse. I believe Doc Holiday started the fight at the corral by clicking back his double barrel shotgun. the transcripts mention two clicks before the shooting started. most of Earps fights ended quick with him pistol whipping vs shooting. his brother Virgil  was far more experienced with law enforcement and was in the Civil war. Wyatt was acting out after Morgan was killed. the bullet was intended for Wyatt but one shot hit Morgan while the other went passed Wyatt's head. then Virgil was shot and the history was born. several years after his death a book was released making him the deadliest most feared shooter. this was not true. he simply took his time in a hurry and got lucky. his ability to stay calm kept him alive. not the fact of being an expert shooter.

A photo below shows the gunfight location behind the mule....

Did Cooper survive, I don't know. stats tell you he did. copycats tell the same.

Sky diving is easy and safe except for when it is not.  For the record, I don't think any skydiver would describe it as being easy and safe.

I remember that raid. As I remember, it had to do with aircraft maintenance and financial records. I'm not back yet, but hope to be soon. I'm starting to feel like a flippin' whuffo. I'll let you know when I am.

Sky diving is easy and safe except for when it is not.  For the record, I don't think any skydiver would describe it as being easy and safe.

Skydiving is an air sport, and a high-speed sport. Both of those mean that it can maim you, and it can kill you. When shit happens, it happens fast, and you've got limited time to deal with it, so you better be prepared. I think it's best put as, skydiving is not a safe thing to do, but it can be done safely. That said, the gear and procedures are fairly simple. As a mechanical device, parachutes are far simpler than, say, the brakes on your car. The key is training, diligence, attention to detail. In training, we examine all the possible failure modes, and pre-determine what is best to do about them. That way when stuff goes wrong, it's not a surprise that you have to figure out, you already know what to do. And there is no time for panic, you must replace that with focus and determination. It's not for everybody. Actually, in practice, I think complacency gets more people in trouble than panic.

In any jump made, the odds are greatly in favor of survival. But people occasionally do go in, so anything is possible. A big part of instructing is assessing people as you work with them in training. You get a pretty good idea of how different types of people are likely to perform. So take Cooper. He plans this daring heist. And being no Walter Mitty, he actually prepares for it and does it. Once he boards the airplane, he could still hair out at any time. He could keep the note in his pocket, land, get a return flight and think, 'nice try'. But he hands over the note, keeps control of the situation, and actually goes out the door. If 'Señor Huevos Grandes Cooper' (nod to the Nelsons) goes through with all that, my educated guess is that he has no problem pulling the ripcord, stable or not. And if he pulls, he all but assuredly gets an open canopy. Again, I think Andrade's research into WWII bailouts is an excellent indicator of Cooper's chances, even if he's inexperienced. Any experience he did have, all the better.

It really should have. An uninflated drogue is one of the pre-determined failure modes that is dealt with in training tandem instructors. The drogue is thrown soon after exit, at the top of the skydive. He should have, and was trained to, pull the drogue release and deploy the main as soon as he recognized the uninflated drogue. The drogues deflate at the beginning of deployment, so it would have resulted in a normal open main.

Wyatt Earp always said "you need to take your time in a hurry."

I like that. I alway teach students, when it comes to the pull or emergency procedures, don't rush - be smooth, deliberate, and accurate.

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

I'm sure some have looked into Jim MacDonald.

I'm starting to now and he seems interesting.

Agent Jarvis.....

I see the comments on the DZ. Robert is not going to validate anything. he believes security clearance speaks the truth and doesn't feel obligated to even try.

By his own admission of the FBI not investigating Kenny tells it all right there. the PDF's he sent them have inaccuracies and things would have to be investigated. witnesses for one. nobody in the Kenny circle was ever questioned about Kenny except in the 90's with Lyle's constant pleas. the FBI is NOT going to conclude anything based on assumptions.

This has jack shit to do with being worried about anything surrounding Kenny. the super memory they all have needs to be looked at by people involved with memory. currently, there are only 10 people who can recall there entire lives with dates and times. one is Marilu Henner from Taxi. then Kenny's description. short, bald and pale.

The stories are just not believable, period. again, it has zip to do with Robert and his agenda. no house bought for cash, no property bought for $10 either. all this nonsense is still being profited by Robert's failure to correct his book he brags about with sales . correcting his book is one of the things Bruce has told him to do for years. the last excuse was when the "first ever motion picture" comes out. It's fraudulent IMO. not small or minor problems. he won't even take any blame for that. he wants everything to appear truthful without cross examination or negative comments that could have an impact on the claims.

Nobody needs his permission to discuss Kenny anymore than he needs permission blasting every suspect that gets attention or is discussed. it's an endless circle of nonsense with him.

...The pageviews are ten times the average due to Marvel's little trailer showing Loki as DB Cooper.

UPDATE: It appears at least one participant in the DB Cooper story is getting a large recurring role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. See attached pic. The actress playing Florence Schaffner is reportedly in 5 episodes as per IMDb.

I might get an interview with Joe Biden before I get Jarvis' phone number...

Don't rely on Blevins doing anything...he believes he solved a 50 year old case but thinks a "professional" needs to ask Jarvis a simple question..

If it was me, I would be calling the media, going to news websites, contacting multiple FBI locations for answers..That's how you find the TRUTH to things..
