as per Shutter's post #5166  dated July 27 (yesterday)
The post shows a gate at the Fazio's property. There is also a sign saying members only. Does anyone know what members they are talking about? Was there some kind of club?  Was it to discourage the public from trespassing?  Just curious.

There is a lock on that gate and there was a club.  I believe Himmelsbach discusses this in his book.

Was the plane in the air when he handed the note to Florence Schaffner or were they on the ground?  If the plane was still taxiing, what would he have done if the pilots decided not to take off?  A bomb in the air is a lot more damaging than one on the ground.

I have seen accounts indicating that Cooper passed the note to Schaffner while the plane was still on the ground, maybe on the runway itself, but getting ready to take off.  But the airliner was airborne before the cockpit crew could be notified.

Bruce, I have a brand new Polaroid 7" tablet if you would like me to send it to you. I recall saying I would send you one that Chuck left behind but I couldn't get it to work online..this was given to me a couple days ago and I already have two tablets.

the box was sealed but didn't have a charger for it..I might have one that I can include in the box..I'm testing it out to see how it works..

let me know

Polaroid now makes tablets?  Just watched a Mad Men episode and a polaroid camera was a esteemed gift... Interesting how big they were at the time.

I'm pretty sure that the Polaroid company that made the iconic cameras went bankrupt, and sold the Polaroid brand name to a firm that licensed it out to all sorts of electronics manufacturers who were looking for a recognizable brand name to put on their products.  Eventually, that firm sold the brand name to a company that started operating under the name, instead of licensing it.

“Polaroid” products these days aren’t really made by the old instant camera company. They just license the brand.

Amidst all the fighting and bickering here there is also kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity as evidenced by Shutter’s gift to Bruce. Bravo!

Just got back from a week of aviation exhibits and shows at the Oshkosh WI Fly In event. I flew left seat on most legs from WA to WI. Handled flying, navigation and ATC comms. License? What license?

Insane approaching the event last Monday. Over 10,000 planes fly in. Traffic is so dense that the controllers ask you to turn OFF your transponder within 10 miles of OSH. They ask that planes NOT transmit just listen unless they have critical comms.

Spotters on the approach say “low wing single engine plane over Fisk with blue stripes, wag your wings. Good wag. Follow the yellow Piper in front of you and keep your speed up. Then, as you get on final approach The controller will tell you to touchdown on one of three different colored circles painted along the long runway. Three planes at once are touching down.

As we approached last Monday the traffic got so heavy that the controllers told all planes short of Fisk to discontinue the approach and circle Green Lake counterclockwise in two different stacks according to speed capability the slow stack (90 knots) was at 1800 feet in the fast stack (135 knots) at 2300.  We initially had over 100 planes in a big uncontrolled stacked circle. Nail biter, with more planes entering  the holding stack every few seconds.  Somehow it all got sorted out and the approaches resumed without any mid air collisions.

I spoke to many former 727 flight crew members about the DB Cooper skyjacking. Not one of them knew (prior to the skyjack) that the door and stairs could be deployed in flight and not one of them knew about Boeing’s  prior air drop tests. So yes, it was public info, but not widely known.

Saw dozens of crazy designed planes but this one took the cake. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Two radial engines and a jet mounted at the wing splice. Fully aerobatic. Loops rolls etc.

Lots of skydiving during the daily airshows but it looked pretty mundane next to the stunning aircraft demos.

Whatever pilots knew or didnt know, Cooper thought he knew! But he thought the controls were in the cockpit! So he didnt know the 727 as well as he assumed?

Brings up other questions concerning his actions and behavior during the hijacking. Is this the correct thread to continue this on?
