It said that he "received instructions to the flight area".

Might be over-analysis, but if Cooper needed directions to the gate, then that might indicate a lack of familiarity with Portland airport.

Is it known, did Cooper 'need' directions, did he ask for them, or did the ticket agent just automatically give directions because that's part of what they do?

This probably doesn't mean anything.  In the 1971 era, the ticket agent routinely hand wrote the gate number on the boarding pass jacket, told the passenger the gate number and pointed in the direction of that gate.

I wasn’t alive in 1971, but I guess you were.

How are you so familiar with airline ticketing operations?

I believe all airline ticket agents followed the procedure of guiding them to the right terminal..

Simple.  I did quite a bit of traveling on the airlines for both professional business and personal business in the 1960s and 1970s.  In fact, I was traveling on the airlines for personal reasons east of the Mississippi River on the very night that Cooper hijacked the airliner in the Pacific Northwest.

I have never worn a clip-on tie.  But read below.

FULL DISCLOSURE:  I spent several years in Washington State in the late WW2 era.  During that time, I saw one of those Japanese balloon bombs fly right over my head but a couple of P-38s were circling it and reportedly shot it down when it got to an uninhabited area a few miles east of the Columbia River.  After that time frame, my next visit to Washington state was in 1975 to attend a family get-together.

My limited amount of parachuting experience ended in the mid-1960s.  No parachuting in the 1970s or later.

I spent most of the 1960s and 1970s working east of the Mississippi River.  I did spend a significant amount of time in that era working in a remote desert area somewhere but can't remember where it was.

I am not D.B. Cooper.

I'm 72 and R99 is a LOT older than me. I vaguely remember 727s. I think I flew one once.

Ouch!  And I have another birthday coming up on November 24th which will also be the 51st anniversary of the Cooper hijacking.

Bruce, this just shows you that clean living and good genes have their reward. ::)

I concur. Congrats on your well-deserved longevity.

Nice birthday date - you're a true Cooperite.

You know Richard McCoy can be tied to the cigarettes.  Can anyone of these suspects be tied to the comic book?  In any way?  I see another show is coming.  My guess is an all out assault on Gryder.

I'd be surprised if they mention Gryder's name at all.  McCoy was a suspect long before Mr. Gryder ever advocated for him being Cooper.   That being said, for all I know they have him in the show discussing McCoy---someone did say that almost everyone was there.

Reality is such that until more convincing evidence and or details are produced,  McCoy as Cooper will not be accepted, nor should he until such time.  My 2 cents...

What ties McCoy to the cigarettes?

I've read a number of the comics and have plans to read them sequentially for editions to late 1971. I'm about the same age as Cooper was. In a lot of ways I struggle to see why he would have read them - they are not that interesting for middle aged men. He might have acquired them in the comic format published with either Asterix or Tintin depending on language which were much more popular comic strips.

The only reasons I could think for why he might have read them were in order to learn or refresh knowledge of a language or to teach children a family language.

Netflix and their production company, Fulcrom 73 or some such, began their research about a year or two ago. They filmed me in June 2021, and had spoken with me at length before then. That is way before Dan Gryder made his mark. Same too for Marty in some ways - he really came to prominence in the Vortex with his presentations at the CC21.

I can't find any links to McCoy smoking cigarettes--Raleigh or any other brand.  Everything I have read says that he was not a smoker or drinker due to his LDS faith.  The only stretch that could possibly be brought up is that he had roots in Raleigh, North Carolina.

I believe that one of the witnesses from his 1972 UAL Hijacking stated that she did NOT observe him smoking.
