The winds have picked up a bit, but nothing major. the rain is off and on not heavy as of yet. I'm only getting the tip of things at this point. I'll post some video shortly. the way it stands now is the west coat is in big trouble.

I had to replace the audio due to the wind over taking the audio..can someone verify the video looks like the frame rate has increased? I've noticed this with some videos I've posted on You Tube..seems to have sped up?

This is the location where the eye wall hit while I was driving during Wilma. telephone poles on the left that started to tilt...winds are about 20 with some gusts. feels like it's evening time..

8:00 advisory shows the storm is down to 130 mph. that's still a very dangerous storm. probably gusting to 150+

11:00 advisory...125 mph winds..dropped 5 more miles per hour..

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from
the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 195
miles (315 km).  Caibarien, Cuba recently reported a wind gust to
124 mph (200 km/h).

12:00 the winds are starting to pick up with heavy gusts. nothing bad, but I'd say gusting to about 40...current winds show 28 mph..

All the best, Shut. It's good that wind speeds are down a bit, but it's still gonna be a ride.

the winds are at about 35 gusting to maybe 45-50 at some points. should be in the 70's by 9 pm according the the weather service. this is when things start going south. power lines start hitting each other causing transformers to blow..still needs to jog further west, but it won't help the west coast at this point and position. they will be the one's who are in for a ride.

Personally, I consider this part the "calm before the storm" all though it's windy, it's only introducing itself.

The "t" is a good place to be. Far enough away from the beach to be safe, imho.

I used to live just west of the airport, and a little south. On a canal. Winter of 1982-1983.

I agree, Irma is just saying 'howdy.' At midnight we'll see exactly what kind of lady she really is.

Heavy wind and rain just came through, it stopped for the moment, all is calm..for now..

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from
the center, and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 195
miles (315 km). Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International airport
recently reported a sustained wind of 47 mph (76 km/h) and a gust
of 70 mph (113 km/h).

Savor the calm - you know a lot more is coming.

I'm enjoying your Governor Scott's presentations. In terms of this emergency he seems to be a clear-minded, conscientious, and organized - all to Florida's benefit, imo.

I'm a little surprised by some of the estimates on the storm surge. Up to 20-feet if the wind, full-moon, and high tide align "perfectly" around Captiva Island, on the west coast. That's severe. "It'll go over your house," Scott said, or words to that effect. At least he's not under-playing the potentials.

I trust everyone in South Florida is off the roads. That's no place to be tonight. Reports coming in from the shelters are not good. They are jammed and under-prepared. Finding a spot in a shelter seems to be turning into the equivalent of finding gas. Scott is saying: find a friend, stay with family.

Be well. Keep us posted. I'm assuming that you might have power until 10 pm Eastern Time tonight, no? What do you expect?

Straight from the National Hurricane Center

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
STORM SURGE:  The combination of a dangerous storm surge and the
tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by
rising waters moving inland from the shoreline.  The water is
expected to reach the following HEIGHTS ABOVE GROUND if the peak
surge occurs at the time of high tide...

Cape Sable to Captiva...10 to 15 ft
Captiva to Ana Maria Island...6 to 10 ft
Card Sound Bridge through Cape Sable, including the Florida Keys...
5 to 10 ft
Ana Maria Island to Clearwater Beach, including Tampa Bay...
5 to 8 ft
North Miami Beach to Card Sound Bridge, including Biscayne Bay...
4 to 6 ft
South Santee River to Fernandina Beach...4 to 6 ft
Clearwater Beach to Ochlockonee River...4 to 6 ft
Fernandina Beach to North Miami Beach...2 to 4 ft

The deepest water will occur along the immediate coast in areas of
onshore winds, where the surge will be accompanied by large and
destructive waves.  Surge-related flooding depends on the relative
timing of the surge and the tidal cycle, and can vary greatly over
short distances.  For information specific to your area, please see
products issued by your local National Weather Service forecast
office.

recently, they tore down a women's prison out in unincorporated Broward..it was clean, been closed for years but would of made a perfect shelter. it's solid, thick windows, plenty of toilets and room.

Tornado warnings are coming in on my phone. not a watch, so that means they have been sited.

Good luck out there, Shutter. Once it's all over, don't forget to pour a bourbon and 7-Up. Godspeed, Coopsnoop.
