looking at the dates these type of batteries were used makes you wonder if the battery he had (if it was this type) was even any good?

Good question. These old carbon-zinc dry cells had a pretty short shelf life.

were they even manufactured in the 60-70's?

Definitely available in the early 60s.

When I read that I thought the same as you. The sticks were red dynamite in a bundle.
Red tape was used to bundle them together.

this is a different case...

Cooper appears to have the bomb wired from the battery to the blasting cap. it's possible he had long wires leading to and from and had a break in the wire that he was holding. he connects the wires which would connect the circuit igniting the blasting cap and boom. I suspect he had the wires pretty far apart which would make it hard for static electricity to arc between them or any type of signal.

If it was a real bomb...

Blevins believes Kenny used about 24 rolls of quarters to make the 8 sticks..the poor guy making no money used $240 worth of quarters instead of a wooden dowel?

yeah but remember Tina said she was flustered and gave a better interview later with more details?
that is covered in the fbi memos too.

saying the first memos are the best, isn't necessarily right.

"covered and uncovered" wiring is not a good idea with explosives....

I believe this is Tina's statement on December 1, 1971

this comes from the "Las Vegas" 302's and not the Seattle 302's

I've been inclined to believe the bomb was a fake, but the best match I found to a significant number of particles found on the 305 tie match an ignition device. If anyone has any other interpretations I am happy to be wrong. Really, I am. What do you think about the Magnesium/Palladium?

Wonder if this was true during Sheridan's time as a Smoke Jumper?

...an FAA Parachute Rigger certification for every smokejumper is one of the training goals at the McCall Smokejumper base."
