I've been trying to envision a scenario in which all of those particles could exist in transmissible form in a manufacturing environment.  Antimony from making the glass, yttrium from the phosphors, etc.  My understanding is that when something complex is made, each of the parts is made separately, then gathered in one spot and assembled.  For the antimony and the phosphors to come from the same place in Tom Kaye's theory, there would have to be one place that produced each of these components of a cathode ray tube, then assembled it on the spot.  I don't think such a place exists.  If it does, and someone here knows of it, please let me know.

There are entire towns in China seeing massive collecive health issues from recycling computers for their parts.  CRT tubes were the high technology of the late 60's/early 70's.  They contain a lot of rare elements and recyclable parts.  Watch this video.  It's short.

See the part starting at 1:10 where the man is using a small electrical cutter?  What interesting particles will come out of that jack in the box?  What CRT salvage businesses existed in 1971?

Manufacturing?  I have yet to be convinced that it can muster all of the McCrone particles onto a tie.
Salvage? Seeming more likely.

Thoughts?

tektronix (beavorton) made their own CRTs in the '60s. The whole thing. Then they made the final product too.

They even had a project to make a scanning electron microscope. Never productized it though. I think the people involved went to another company that might have productized it or something like that.

Recycling in the 60's & 70's was nothing like it is today. almost 100% of household garbage went to landfills..they accepted picture tubes as long as the neck was broken to allow the vacuum to escape..

Add in repair for good measure. Nobody repairs televisions anymore, but they did when I was a kid. You can bet that people repaired aircraft quality gear. Same concept. You get a little on you.

Snow, was it compartmentalized, where different buildings on a campus contributed all of the parts, and assembly took place in one particular building?  Because it could be extremely easy to find out which names wore a tie into that one building.

Anybody know what other steps were taken to investigate individuals at Tektronics, aside from DovidFraiman?  I've been hearing about them for like 2 years now. Has nobody else gone through the suspect pool there yet?

There is no way of going thru a "suspect pool" at any company.
For instance, no one has gone thru the "suspect pool" at Boeing.
FBI suspended their Boeing people test stairs-related investigation when Boeing people said it didn't make sense, based on what Cooper said about takeoff with stairs.

Also: FBI investigation of Boeing parachute club seems to have been incomplete. They were apparently unaware of club existing in the '62-'63 time frame.

Just as an example.

The idea that anyone nowadays is reviewing a "suspect pool" from any company, is silly.

Then what are you doing here?

I went through the entire Tektronix photo file (12,000 employees up to 1970), and sent messages to a dozen or so of former employees, most of them engineers (I sent messages to everyone I could find who worked specifically with CRTs). All the former employees said there was zero chance DB Cooper worked at Tek, and I haven't seen an employee who is a good match to the sketch.

Tom Kaye and I went out to dinner after the conference. I asked Tom about the quantity of yttrium found on the tie--specifically, if there was a single particle or something more significant. He stated that he wasn't certain given that they had to rush to summarize the particles that were found for the TV show.

In fact, it may be that only a single particle of yttrium was found. Make of that what you will.
Some men see things as they are, and ask why? I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?

See attached.  Tektronix was subcontracting out assembly work to the Warm Springs Indian Reservation in 1971.

Whether this merry band of swarthy folk were assembling CRT's or not, I'd like to see what else was being subcontracted out and where.

The McCrone Excel spreadsheets have at least a dozen particles containing yttrium. Probably a lot more.  I haven't gone over the yttrium in a while.

I think if anything could be found on the tie it needs to be something that can link it to a specific area.

I think that's been Tom's goal all along. I wonder what a particle analysis of the bills would have turned up? My guess is 'nothing or a 'surprise' but its just a guess?

I don't think enough history surrounds the money with Cooper to be of any value.
