Does anyone have aerial photos of Caterpillar island in 1971-1972? I thought I remembered them being posted on here a few years ago...

Gonna go looking for Danny Boy, Marty? We could have Dueling DB Digs - you on Caterpillar Island and Eric on the other end of things of T-Bar. It would make for great TV.... Just saying.

What if Gryder has indeed solved this?  Why would McCoys daughter lie?  At this stage?   Gryder is correct that this case is never going to be solved forensically.  It does seem incredible they simply lost those cigarettes, even though in the 70s they had no clue about DNA.  But to shoot down McCoy being Cooper simply on the word of the FBI saying where he was is just ridiculous.  Mr Gryder has put together a very compelling argument.  The money being dropped makes sense.  Pretty much everything in this episode makes sense.

DB Fan: We can assume that there is only one DB Cooper.  Therefore given all the suspects and confessions and family alibis, someone is lying.  Or, people are confused or remember things differently.  So why is McCoy's family any more trustworthy than the other families?

My observations here revolve around the totality of evidence/information, or whatever we want to call it.  I don't know of a single suspect that is ruled out simply over one piece of evidence.  There seems to be this belief out there that McCoy was only ruled out due to the alibi, and therefore if the alibi is proven wrong, then he is DB Cooper.  Do people really think that the FBI ruled him out just because he had an alibi?  I know most of us on this forum could list a number of reasons that McCoy is not Cooper.  Even if you disprove his alibi and showed that he worked in a titanium factory, that still does not make him close to being Cooper.  I think it was 377 who said something like "ability does not mean culpability." McCoy is a very interesting guy, but clearly is not Cooper.

Members of McCoy's family started saying he was Cooper years ago, but have never provided any falsifiable details or answered any questions about how they know he was Cooper. It would be nice if one of them was willing to answer some questions about this. Dan provides basically nothing that hasn't been theorized for years (Cooper jumping near the Columbia, Losing the money). No evidence was provided that McCoy was Cooper, and we're left with almost nothing more than a grand conspiracy theory that includes the Vortex being some kind of misinformation machine for the FBI.

Well the story is kind of tragic right. I mean your father got shot by FBI. Your mother was involved in the crime.
You're supposed to be Morman and all that entails.

Why would anyone listen to anything they say? The idea that they are driven primarily by some factual search for the truth?
Unlikely.

Someone is lying all right. There are so many lies in this case you cant count.  So many false confessions and nut cases.  I am not going to write McCoy off though.  No way

McCoy, with his military pilot background, was acutely aware of small 243.0 MHz emergency radio beacons (pingers) that could be packed into a rig. He even tossed one beacon equipped rig out long before he jumped which confused the chasers. Cooper seemed to be totally unaware of this particular risk. McCoy was so aware of this implanted pinger beacon risk that he brought his own rig to jump. Sound like the same person? Not to me. Also I’m curious how McCoy knew Perry Stevens, the Oakland CA based rigger, who he demanded the FBI procure parachutes from. Perry taught me how to skydive. He was well known in skydiving and acrobatic flying circles since he performed FAA mandated periodic inspections and repacks. By mentioning his name, McCoy revealed a lot. It connected him with sport parachuting. Can I completely rule out McCoy as Cooper? No. But I sure have doubts.

The FBI files has just put up a new video on the topic of Cooper.  I am apparently the first viewer.  It is starting with McCoys hijacking of $500,000.  The Denver to LA flight, ?  But it starts on the East coast with a prisoner aboard as they cover it.  The FBI Files is a great show.  NO nonsense

Are you talking about "Flight From Justice"? If so, that's been out for several years. I've seen it a few times and it's pretty good account of McCoy's hijacking and subsequent escape from prison and his ultimate death.

Yes its about the escape.  I have seen the story in a series about prison escapes before.  Not easy to bust out of Lewisburg.   This was the first successful one since 1953 they say.  And it was Richard McCoy.  I think that trucks have been used in other escapes to bust through gates.    This one is nuts.  Rifle bullets hitting the truck and all.  They were pretty good at it but someone made him and that was it. I think he knew he would die reaching for his gun.  He did not want to go back to prison

After a substantial delay, the Army CoE finally fulfilled my FOIA request for information pertaining to dredge operations between 1971 and 1980.

I have spent the better part of two days reviewing the files. So far, there is nothing too illuminating.

For reference, the name that the Corps gives to the area of Tena Bar is Willow Bar. As we know, in 1974 dredge spoils were deposited  at Tena Bar. Interestingly, dredge spoils were also deposited on the Oregon side of the Columbia directly across from Tena Bar during this same 1974 dredge operation. If the money arrived via dredge, then it’s possible that there could be some evidence such as money shards or bag debris at that location.

I will post some photos and more information in a bit.

Old-old news. This has been repeated a million times.

# DREDGING REPORT- MR BECHLY: Date:  Feb. 13, 1980

Mr. BECHLY, after a review of his records, advised that the only dredging operation in the vicinity of the Fazio Brothers’ Pan between November 24, 1971 and the present, was from August 6 1974 through September 18, 1974.
Material dredged from the river channel in the Columbia River was placed in several locations on or near the FAZIO Brothers’ Farm as wall as one location across the river on the Oregon side.
The dredge material deposited at the site where the money was located came from the north ‘half.of the ship channel, which is 300 feet wide, between river mile 96 plus 38 feet and river mile 97 plus 17 feet. This material was deposited on the beach area of the FAZIO Brothers’ Farm between August 19 through the 25th, 1974, ‘and consisted of 91,100 cubic yards of fill.

see photos attached.

Agree, georger. Like I said, nothing illuminating.

I was going to post some interesting photos, but with the site seemingly on the way out, I don't see the point.
