Another historical peak chart...1977 is on here but not on the list?

I see what's going on here.

First, this chart only recorded dates going back the last 50 years--1970 and more recent.

Second, the "Historic Crests" list from weather.gov records a crest on February 2, 1997. This seems to correlate perfectly with the 1977 spot on the chart. Therefore, either the 1997 year should read 1977, or the other way around.

Either way, even if 1977 is the year, it occurred in January and very early February which, needless to say, would not contain May/June diatoms.

The purpose wasn't really for diatoms...just another chart I ran across and seen 77 on it...I believe Georger or someone on here often spoke of high water in that period..

Would be interesting to determine whether we’re dealing with ‘77 or ‘97.

I don't know...97 is on there along with all the others..it's just 77 that's missing from the list..I see two from 97..but the 77 mark is not in the right place to be mixed up..

How exactly did Palmer determine the layers..if you add them up in depth they would be around 7 feet not counting the layer below the dredge material?

Here's a scientific article related to the high precipitation and flooding in 1996/1997:

Here is an article that references flooding in 1997:

I found no references to any flooding in 1977. That would seem to indicate the flooding occurred in 1997.

When you zoom in on this photo to Palmer it appears he is holding a soda can...it looks like the top of the can where the pull tab can be found?

Can a better quality be found?

It looks like a can and then I question it...I found a better pic but it still pixelates too much..worth checking into..

Revisiting the photo looks like it might be the maps rolled up he was looking at in a video in that same spot..

It's to big to be a soda sized can.  My guess is that it is some kind of equipment that he is holding.

Palmer is seen in that area right where he is in that still with several maps where is is discussing the find..it's probably those maps rolled up in his hand..
