I was walking down an alley and Dan Gryder jumped out with a broomstick and started beating me about the head.
I started yelling "WTF?"
He screamed "What's the frequency, snowmman. What's the frequency?"

I think people are confused now with these podcasts and video channels. They don't know how to dial them in.
It's going to lead to more assaults, like mine.

Isn't this a distant allusion to Geraldo Rivera's claim about 30 years ago?
Dan Rather actually. In the late '80s he was attacked by a couple of men outside of his apartment building in NYC who beat him while screaming "What's the frequency, Kenneth? What's the frequency?" The band R.E.M. later made a song of the same name that became popular in the '90s.

I believe one of the assailants was later identified as a man with mental illness who believed that news media was beaming mind control into his brain.
Did he live in the Dakota building?  Home of John Lennon an Jackie Kennedy

ah come on. Sure we're all old but if you play this REM song backwards, you can hear Dan Cooper's real name.

"What's the frequency, Kenneth?" is your Benzedrine, uh-huh
I was brain-dead, locked out, numb, not up to speed
I thought I'd pegged you an idiot's dream
Tunnel vision from the outsider's screen

I never understood the frequency, uh-huh
You wore our expectations like an armored suit, uh-huh

I'd studied your cartoons, radio, music, TV, movies, magazines
Richard said, "Withdrawal in disgust is not the same as apathy"
A smile like the cartoon, tooth for a tooth
You said that irony was the shackles of youth

You wore a shirt of violent green, uh-huh
I never understood the frequency, uh-huh

"What's the frequency, Kenneth?" is your Benzedrine, uh-huh
Butterfly decal, rearview mirror, dogging the scene
You smile like the cartoon, tooth for a tooth
You said that irony was the shackles of youth

You wore a shirt of violent green, uh-huh
I never understood the frequency, uh-huh
You wore our expectations like an armored suit, uh-huh
I couldn't understand

You said that irony was the shackles of youth, uh-huh
I couldn't understand
You wore a shirt of violent green, uh-huh
I couldn't understand
I never understood, don't fuck with me, uh-huh

As most of you know, I am also heavily involved in researching the Zodiac Killer case.

Recently, there was an announcement of sorts from the most respected and well-known voice in Zodiac circles: Tom Voigt. Tom announced on his website that his source had informed him that police had used a piece of evidence (likely a stamp or accompanying letter) and developed a full DNA profile. An examination of that DNA led investigators to conclude that the contributor of that DNA  "could not be the Zodiac Killer". This would be akin to the FBI announcing that they had taken DNA from the tie, but the DNA could not have come from DB Cooper.

That means that whoever left the DNA on the evidence was a woman or someone with a rock-solid alibi. Still, this development is considered a "lead" in the case, and not a "dead end". Perhaps, the DNA contributor was related to Zodiac or connected to him in some way.

I'm optimistic that we will learn the identity of the Zodiac within the next 18 months.

Yes, I have had interest in it also.  Have watched the movies and such and specials.  Do they not now have it narrrowed down to two guys pretty much?  Both dead of course.  If he were still alive he would likely be active.  I mean at least sending messages to the cops.  Fascinating case.

Not necessarily. The Golden State Killer was alive and well, leading a pretty normal life and hadn't been active in years. Perhaps Zodiac got spooked after his last kill and decided it was time to lay low.

I hope you are right. I follow this one as well, though not as close as I do Cooper.

Despite a media onslaught by Tom Colbert, the Zodiac case has not been solved and they have not narrowed it down to anyone. This DNA announcement is encouraging, and I think the investigation is closing in on someone, but I have no idea who.

Zodiac was described as anywhere from 25 to 40 years old which would put him anywhere from late 70s to early 90s today. I'd say it's 50/50 that he's still alive.

It looks like most are of the opinion that the DNA that they have is from a woman, and thus could not be Zodiac. But that the woman in question could still have a link to Zodiac. Is that your opinion as well, or do you believe they actually know who the donor of the DNA is?

Not solved but I am sure they have mentioned two in particular.   I cannot remember the names as I have not watched it in a while.  But they have a couple of guys in mind.  Of course that is not good enough.  He was a real psycho.  I hope they prove who he was.  Obviously he is no longer alive

If I were guessing, I would say he's not alive. But to the best of my knowledge, we don't have a good description of Zodiac to the point that we know about how old he was. He could absolutely be alive.

I would bet against him being alive because I do not believe he could reisist the temptation of rubbing the cops noses in it

That is a logical assumption that people make and I have thought the same thing at times. But, it's always possible that he decided to quit while he was ahead. He could not have continued to kill and taunt police without eventually getting caught and I'm sure he knew that. He may also have been incarcerated which would have put an end to his killing and taunting of police. He may be in prison today.
