Bruce, while going through some of the things Chuck left behind I found an older model (no name) tablet he didn't want while he was here, but saved it anyway. could you use something like this. it appears to work, I haven't tried the internet yet. I would like to see it put to use as I have no reason to use it. he didn't want it and tried pawning it off on me several years back..it's a 7" screen, not a lot of bells and whistles, but it's a tablet? he would be happy seeing it put to use rather than sitting on a shelf. I have plenty of things from him that are not being given away. the battery works but for how long I'm not sure..has a power adapter but I don't know if I can find it...

generic phone charger plug will work vs the power adapter..it sells for about 10 bucks on Ebay...the other way (phone charger plug) would be the cheapest...if you don't already have one?

I accept your kind gift. I would be honored to receive Chuck's tablet. Let's email each other to discuss shipping, and how I can pay / honor Chuck's memory, etc. Give me a holler when your power is restored and you're getting emails.

Thank you.

everything is up and running..my phone is not 100% keeps losing service, but the power is on and emails have always worked. I started cleaning up and went into my shed and pulled out the things that belonged to Chuck and started going through everything to get it in order for his family to pickup.

I'll check it really good today..make sure it can connect. I'm sure the browser will need updated along with the system itself. I don't think he ever used it. I don't remember what he said about it since it was a couple years back. I have so many electronics I've abandoned sitting on shelves, or in closets..I don't need anymore. as I mentioned before, he would like to see someone using it I'm sure. shipping cost will be very low, it doesn't weigh much at all. probably the USPS $4.95 box will do just fine, if so, don't worry about that either..Chuck would give you the shirt off his back if it was his last one, so I am simply doing something he would do. that's where we really connected. I enjoy helping others. my father was the same way.

End Message

I was able to get online with the tablet, but it's very slow. he did use it. things about tattoo's are in the cache of the browser. I'll have to clear everything out and update the browser...I'm sure that's what's slowing it down...

It's interesting going to the supermarket. most of the lights are out since they are on backup power..shelves empty..work is taking a toll since new construction is at a halt until the grounds are secured and power restored at most sites. Cumberland Farms still closed, lots of gas station remain closed. Walmart is kicking but missing product as well. cash only in most places.

The sound of chainsaws are still in the background where ever you go..lots of big tree's went down, some hitting homes. generators still running in some area's..the tree's seem to be the major damage. one street has power, while the next one doesn't. it's weird how a storm destroys large tree's and yet, the mailbox with a flag on it remains. all the debris is leaves and branches, much different than past storms that have all kinds of things laying around. toys, garbage lids, chairs, etc. none of that with this storm. gives a hint that people hunkered down this time...

New Cooper Journalist

Doug Perry is a new Cooper guy, writing for the Oregonian and OregonLive.

He's interviewed me twice; Bill Rollins and others as well. Colbert is sending him stuff about you know who, and the recent flap over foam and straps was the center point of our last conversation.

Today, kind of out of the blue, Doug sent me a very interesting link about Tektronix that he got from one of his readers. It a company directory for 1970, with photos of all 12,000 employees. I had no idea that Tektronix was so HUGE.

I've encouraged Doug to interview Bryan Woodruff for the upcoming anniversary date. Doug had no awareness of how huge Ariel, and Dona, are in the Cooper firmament.

On a related note, is anyone else noticing that they are using the word "huge" a lot more in their daily conversations?  Hmmmm.....

I interviewed for a job at Tektronix in Beaverton OR back in the 70s. Spent a whole day on site. Being an EE and a then owner of a Tektronix model 535 dual trace scope I was interested in their mfg ops. The CRTs (screens) were outsourced, not made onsite by Tek. Not sure that was the case for every scope product but if it was, then the chance for rare earth/phosphor contamination from new intact CRTs was zero since they are hermetically sealed and operate as a vacuum tube. I guess if you broke one it would implode and scatter those materials but they had very good procedures for cushioned transport and handling.

Look a few posts down. Tek DID make their own CRTs.

Yes, I did. Duane was out in the parking lot during lunch hour packing chutes for his jumper colleagues. He gave me some good tips on packing C9s. Told me also to be careful around those color CRTs, he had one break and deposit messy stuff all over his tie.

You really do a fine job channeling Trump Georger.  It's really really huge. Nothing like this ever happened under Obama. You know it, I know it. I just got a call from the President of Mexico and he agrees completely.

Just found this: Tek DID mfr their own CRTs.

Power back, Shut? Phones up? Things sound spotty in Miami-Dade - Broward. Schools are still out for another week, I read. A couple million still without power, too. Just checking in.

I have everything back up...last nite when I went to the gas station up the street the lady told me she still didn't have power, or water. this was in Hollywood which is close to the beach. half power at the shop, no 220 to run the machines...they are claiming 70% is back up...some people didn't lose anything...

The storm was not that damaging (most of Broward) basically a tree storm. it's odd that so many lost power, and for so long now. those who suffered a lot of damage was due to tree's falling on there homes...

Supermarkets still low on things, some still on backup power..McDonalds finally opened the other day. I think all the gas stations are now open..cities are hard at work removing downed tree's and bulk pickup...

Broward and palm beach are excluded from any type of aid from FEMA....

Amazing...I just received a phone call from a woman who said her accordion shutter "fell" off the wall during the storm. this is what I deal with when going to jobs I didn't do..we have so many people that take advantage of others..this tells me they didn't attach to any structure..the home is probably wood construction so it has different measurements for wood vs concrete. you miss the framing of the window and attach to plywood...not good..
