I don't know what to say. they investigated it, and nothing happened? Ralph seems to have a grudge more than Cooper IMO. as dead set as he was in finding Cooper, it appears it wasn't in that book..he really wanted closure in this case. I could call Jerry Thomas, but I'm not sure how much truth I would get. he's close with Ralph, but always hesitant to help, at least with including Ralph.
Let me add, and correct me if I'm wrong.  Ralph was the FBI agent who seemed to be (or tried to be) the public case for Norjack, but he was not the assigned agent.  The case was still assigned to the Seattle office.  Whoever the case agent was at the time would have investigated Max's book, not Ralph.

I guess it depends on jurisdiction. it appears that Ralph was everywhere during the period of the money find?

Everywhere! That's funny.  8)  Seattle had jurisdiction. The Vancouver office, yes there was a Vancouver office with two agents (one older permanent and soon to retire), actually had immediate jurisdiction, technically, but the office was small and everyone busy so it fell to the larger office across the river, Portland, to take charge. Plus, it was the Portland office Ingram had been referred to by authorities in Vancouver. So Himms stepped right in, as it were.  :)) Actually these two offices got along very well so it was no skin off X's face to let Portland take charge ... pending the arrival of agents from Seattle. Just as a footnote* Schreuder and one of the VCR agents were good friends and fishing buddies. But you can see one of the VCR agents in the background near Dorwin in the KIRO video. As it happened the lead (older) agent at Vancouver was very knowledgeable in the Cooper case - had studied it in depth.  He was consulted many times during the Ingram period. You just dont hear him mentioned very often but he was something of an expert in the Cooper case and one helluva nice guy. He's now deceased.

So, if Blevins never read the book prior to the release of his book, could this information be bogus about Ralph? his post tells a story of him not having a clue about Gunther, so how did Gunther get in his book, Skipp?

Also, it appears he's closer to the camera, and there is a heavy incline/pitch/grade in the shoreline making you guys even smaller...

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I noticed that too.  I'm 6'2", a hair under, and he's a little taller than me, but in the shoreline picture, he looks a lot taller.  That's Hollywood, I guess.  Meyer

Anybody catch the Sony hacked emails, they discuss a DB COOPER movie script..

"Re:

I love it. I  think it has an American Hustle/Catch Me If You Can vibe. Lots of great parts. Every actor will be interested in the the three guys and the investigator part. There are great womens' roles too. I think the era is interesting. I think the way the script is written has an old fashioned Soderbergh style a la Out Of Sight with non linear/cross cutting between the three characters and their perspectives as they go through the heist and the aftermath of it. I also think it is emotional and poignant in terms of what all of these guys are going through as they try to deal with their issues and demons.   Importantly, the story revolves around a mystery that remains unsolved, which is inherently alluring. And it takes an exciting and fun approach to plumbing the depths of this mystery.

Lastly, like American Hustle, you have the audience rooting for the thief (or thieves) to succeed which to me is key. I personally felt very invested in these guys succeeding and finding happiness.

Probably more of an answer than you wanted.

If Tosaw made up the narrative about DBC finding and examining at least one rigger packing card, how did he even learn about the existence of packing cards and that they were stowed on the rigs themselves? It's not common knowledge outside of the parachute world.

And why make a false claim about it? It doesn't add much to the story.

Just wondering...

Paper clips are not common knowledge to some people. I doubt Tosaw was as "obtuse" as you imply? Not everything is a deep dark secret in this world!

No surprise you would not accept this.  :-X

Its well known and stated in the files that 'Cooper examined the chutes' after they were brought in. Perhaps in the course of that he looked at packing cards? Its just that there is nothing specific in published witness testimony that he did? So ... keep chipping away. Sooner or later you will find an "out". Then you can publish your claim with total impunity! "Cooper examined the packing cards in all chutes. Tina admitted it to Tosaw in anticipation of 377 decades later!"  :))

I can live with the truth G, it's just that in the case of the packing cards we don't really know if he did or did not examine them. It's a pivotal issue in narrowing the scope of viable DBC candidates. He knew a fair amount about the right 727 flight config for an airdrop.  Did he also know a lot about the parachute hardware? That would take him to a narrower part of the suspect funnel. Of course I, like everyone else, have my biases. I dearly want DBC to have used radio comm and DF gear but he didn't and I accept that. I'm still not sure about the packing cards. I'll keep an open mind and so should you.

Richard Tosaw

Galen has told me on several occasions that Richard Tosaw had told him directly, or inferred, that he had gotten additional Cooper information from his brother Mike, who was a special agent in the Seattle office during the Norjak period. Mike was not on the Norjak case, nor was he beloved by his fellow agents in the Bureau, but Mike may have been the source of the "packing card" info and other tidbits.

Remember, Galen and Richard Tosaw worked together on the Columbia River dredging project over several years. So they certainly had the buddy-buddy type of relationship where these kinds of off-hand pieces of information might have been exchanged.

Richard Tosaw was a kindly old gent, and I truly wish I had been able to meet him before his death in 2009. He and I only met over the phone. and only spoke briefly.

Lets not waste time on this! Let's just stipulate Cooper looked for and inspected every packing cards he could find on the airplane, even asked the stews and crew for their packing cards ........ because this is NOT going away ......... >:D :)) :)) :))

Next topic please.

Everything you ever wanted to know about Tosaw (minus what 377, Bruce Smith, Galen Cook, and RobertMBlevins knows!) is here - its a deep subject, oh so deep!, so very deep! endless really, could easily take up another 40 years! We're in bad shape folks. Oh so very bad shape! Very bad shape! Because nobody bothered to interview Tosaw or any of his partners while they were all still alive. The naysayers never interview anybody when it matters! Tosaw knew more than the generals do!  27 pages and that's only for starters.

        Tosaw Speaks! [In reply to]

Hear it for you own bad self (it takes a while (2 mins) to load):

Cooper picked good chutes, F-16s followed Flight 305, Brian picked up bark, Cooper is on the bottom of the Columbia, boys find body a year after Brian’s discovery, money came from Cooper’s body and no other source, no other explanation for money possible, $6000 found with some taken, entire Tena Bar Roto-Tilled by Tosaw, money came from Cooper’s body, Co-pilot said plane flew over Tena Bar, Cooper is buried under sand, WWII parachute used, 82nd Airborne says you die in water, twist buckles on chute, again-MONEY washed from his body which was in the river, Cooper is under two or three feet of sand, spent $2500 per day searching, convinced the body discovered is Cooper’s, bills will last 100 years buried, the serial numbers didn’t enter circulation because the money is on the bottom of the river, Cooper took matchbook to eliminate evidence, not possible to have DNA, no need for DNA since the skeleton will have ID and parachute, not in middle of river or Oregon side, Cooper was obviously a parachutist, money discarded as deception not logical, money found by Brian was ‘tip’ money, money came ashore the day before discovery by Brian, money came from Cooper’s body, eight years later the money washed ashore where the plane flew over, no variables beyond the money washing ashore from where the plane flew over from Cooper’s body, urgent call is made to program with new Cooper suspect! Cooper called on intercom and told crew to slow down so he could get the stairs down and Cooper was a pilot, Pilots of 727 had to look up flap settings since Cooper knew more than them, placard was torn from plane by wind.

There you have a rare interview which is utterly free of any bias or pre-conceived conclusions. Anyone listening to this should buy a shovel, and go to Tena Bar and dig no more than three feet in the sand, about a mile up and down stream, on the Washington side.

Thanks for the Tosaw interview link G! Tosaw is very opinionated, dogmatic and not at all open to alternative theories that challenge his own, BUT... I didn't hear him manufacture a lot of facts out of thin air during the lengthy interview. He seemed to largely stick to the undisputed evidence with the exception of the boys stepping on a submerged body and the flaps being set at 26 or 27 degrees.

I knew of his legal practice. Tosaw was the go to guy in CA if you wanted to find missing heirs. He had a solid reputation among estate lawyers because he found heirs where others failed.

The more I listen to Tosaw the more I realize that in the 80s it was Tosaw I contacted.  He sent me a copy of his book, and on the front cover he wrote, "This guy [Cooper] is dead, he's in the Columbia River."  That was the second Cooper book I read back then, the first being RH's.  I later got an autographed copy of RH's book, thanks to the efforts of Jerry Thomas, who was a great help.  Unfortunately, the Tosaw book got lost in all my moving around back then.  I sure wish I had that autographed copy of the Tosaw book.  Too bad.

Im not sure of the date of the Tosaw interview but Steve Reinhart is still active for anyone who would want to interview him: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
Tosaw died Sept. 16, 2009.

The interview (and Farflung's synopsis of it) pretty much tell the story of what Tosaw thought and what he did. Tosaw's search of the Columbia near Tena Bar began on Nov 2, 1982 with Blake Payne, age 22. Tosaw's book was published in January of 1984 with some searching already completed. Rataczak had told Richard where 305 crossed the Columbia sometime between Tosaw's involvement in the Ingram case and November of '82. According to Tosaw, Rataczak's account of where 305 crossed the Columbia roughly agreed with where Maj. Dawson of McChord AFB stated 305 had crossed (later restated by Dawson in a press interview when Dawson was a member of the Washington State Legislature).

According to one source I talked to, it was the combination of Rataczak's certification that 305 had crossed the Columbia 'west of I5' and the Ingram find, that caused Tosaw to think that Cooper's body was in the Tena Bar area  - and without both components he never would have wasted his time and money conducting any searches at all. Tosaw consulted a number of people before going ahead with any search.

I've done some more work on the commemorative gifts. I have about 8 confirmed people who want one, so I'm cranking them out when I have time..I like little projects like these. years ago I was into building birdhouses. I entered a contest in Georgia taking 2nd and third place...third place was for a "functional' birdhouse, and 2nd place for decorative...
