I walked right up to the entrance to the Railroad Bridge on Vancouver side with my car parked 100 feet away. When I went to foot of bridge to take a few photos, I was greeted by the sound of a approaching Train whistle. The train was moving VERY slowly ! On the Oregon side, access is not so easy and the Hobo camps are under the bridge.

Trains moving slowly to be expected. I wonder how many people have been hit, injured, or even killed on that bridge? Forced to jump? Especially at night ... that is a very very very long bridge with little room for error ??

Is there a catwalk to one side?

It's a double track bridge so he could simply step to other side of bridge. However I'm sure he wouldn't want to be seen and the conductor would certainly notice ! The conductor certainly noticed me and I wasn't even on the bridge. I have a great photo but I don't know how to post it as I'm not much of a techie. Meyer and i looked .at it closely and there is a place to duck down and not be seen. Of course there is no catwalk.

We've got a 727 jumper who vanished into thin air.

How about an entire 727?

The plane was in "special ops" so it survived, probably had help on the ground...

Good one Shutter. 👍

It was later reconfigured as a cruise missile and used against the Pentagon on 9-11. That accounts for the AA markings on debris. Case closed.

Prt of that bridge swings, so I doubt they would venture into walkways...

Heres a photo taken in 2007 - I dont see much space for a catwalk .. looks like a deathtrap to me.

Not necessarily, I saw Kermit's photos -- there is more room than you might think -- little open spots that dip down below the tracks, right at the edge of the bridge.

People ride bikes 2x2 there all the time - I think there's a marathon across that bridge too. The I5 bridge not the RR bridge. heres a photo

Incidentally, Kermit and I met last Monday in Centralia, again.  We talked all-things-Cooper for nearly 4 hours!  I had clams, he had pizza, both delicious.  We covered lots of ground.  Kermit has so much local knowledge about Portland, Vancouver, the Columbia River, the Willamette River, the bridges, etc.  In his time, Kermit says an entire town got wiped out along the River.  Kermit has worked, lived, and built houses all over the Portland area.  I like to talk about some of the things I remember when I lived in the area, south of Portland, in Newberg.  By the way, the Willamette River takes a sharp turn at Newberg.  I remember college fun stuff going on at Champoeg Park, some 10 miles from Newberg, along the Willamette River.  Kermit and I talked about the Willamette River and why it rarely comes up in conversations, yet it may have been more involved in the case than we think.  Kermit is a logical thinker, he's got some really good ideas and thoughts about the case, and there's his local knowledge too....

Meyer,
Yes that was 4 hours that just flew by ! Good food, good company and lots of good conversation. We may not solve this case but at least we will have some fun along the way.

That is a very interesting statement.  Wow.  What about that?  Does the impossible become possible?  It occurs to me that Cooper had no intention of ever jumping into the dense forest and woods of SW Washington state.  He knew V23 was going to stay in the I-5 corridor, and out of the woods and into the flat plains, the closer he got to Vancouver.
