« on: November 16, 2014, 07:54:08 PM »
I'm dedicating this thread to my Father who past away a year ago tomorrow. this has been the toughest one for me yet. I will be absent from any conversation as of 12 o'clock this evening. it will be a day of reflection for me.

Very well thanks. I ordered a copy of Norjak it seems an eternity ago and haven't received it as yet. Once I've read that I will probably be back amongst the discussion here.

My father loved being in the Navy, and loved the ship he was aboard while serving. he was involved in the Mercury project, and was on the USS Randolph during the Cuban missile crisis. not a day goes by without remembering him....

I just got off the phone with my Mother. My father was granted full military funeral Honors. he will be buried at the South Florida National Cemetery. we had a choice to keep the flag, or leave it at the cemetery which would be on display with others. we have chosen to put the flag on display. The Navy has picked up the tab for everything. this takes a lot off my family.

The funeral will occur July 9, 2015. My father was cremated in 2013.

Dave Brown. Son of Jerry L Brown

Tomorrow will will be the most important day in my life. the funeral for my father will be held at the South Florida National cemetery with full military honors. two years later and this is still hard for me to believe he's gone. I remember turning 18 years old and at that time was the legal age for drinking. I was at a Circle K hanging out with some friends. right beside that was Johnny's bar. we were waiting till midnight so I could go into the bar. several minutes later my dad pops up out of nowhere wanting to buy his son a beer....how he knew I would have been there has always made me wonder. we never talked about it after that night, but is forever locked in my memory.

My condolences Shutter. You never really get over the death of your father but time does make it easier to accept. My Dad passed 37 years ago and I miss him every day.

I loved the story about the beer. You two were definitely connected. He is gone but that connection will last forever.

Tomorrow will be a special day for me. I will visit my father's grave site to pay my respect for being a Father, and a soldier. not a day goes by without thinking of him. he helped shape this country. he was part of the Mercury Project, and was on board the USS Randolph during the Cuban Missile Crisis. his service to our country was his choice. I sure miss his rants about them. he talked about it like it was yesterday. God he loved that ship. a piece of him died when he found out the ship was scrapped.

I remember one of the last emails we had. he asked me about finding his Naval records. I told him he would have to get them, but I sent him a video of the ship...his reply was as follows..

Quote
Great video, I watched all of it. It was like been there done that. Thanks for sending it.
