The third episode of the Daily DB Cooper Bite is up. I discuss Tena Bar.

Some men see things as they are, and ask why? I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?

Okay, I'm beginning to understand your perspective a bit better. So, you're saying that Coop jump out of 305 north of T-Bar and landed north of T-Bar - Bachelor Island/Ridgefield area - and then walked south to get to civilization (Vancouver) and his eventual getaway, burying the money at T-Bar for later retrieval.

Why not bury the money closer to where he landed, though? The beaches of Bachelor Island?

That is absolutely correct Bruce.

Now to answer your question:

Put yourself in Cooper's shoes. In my mind his initial concern is going to be whether someone saw him descending from above with a 28' white canopy. With that in mind, I think as soon as he landed he would quickly discard the parachutes and attache case--this means he simply stashed them under some sticker bushes or the like (he would not take the time to actually bury these items). Then he would get the hell out of dodge just in case 30 minutes later the cops arrive with a few cars and a helicopter. Now after walking 8 miles, which would take about 2 hours, he probably felt comfortable enough finding an easy spot to bury the ransom for later retrieval--the beach makes sense. Again, he wouldn't want to bury the ransom near where he landed because if the cops did show up to that area they would certainly find the cash.

When I looked at R99s theory, I had Cooper, if he pulled the ripcord, landing in Salmon Creek.

When I looked at R99s theory, I had Cooper, if he pulled the ripcord, landing in Salmon Creek.

That makes sense. R99 believed he no-pulled and landed on Caterpillar Island. If he immediately deployed in that area he would drift about 4NM to the NE according to the calculations the FBI used to craft their dropzone.

The primary difference between R99 and me is: One, he has the jet about three minutes ahead of where I have it given he has it turning at Malay at 7:56 whereas I have the turn at 7:59 per the FBI's time stamp. Two, his path is direct from Malay to Canby which puts the jet almost on top of Tena Bar. On the other hand, I have the jet rounding the Carlson airport about 1NM west of the intersection and have it headed to a spot slightly west of the Canby intersection per the FBI flight path. This puts my jet flying over St. Helens and DBC jumping about three miles due south of the town while over Sauvie Island.

You're developing a nice body of work here, Eric. Highly speculative in some regards, but worthy nevertheless.

Your commentary on the placard-find really brings home to me the conundrum of the weather and the wind that night. We have such a wide range of testimony - Wind from the SW at 30 mph at 10K as the NWS says, versus 80 mph from the south at PDX, ala Capt. Bohan. Then add in the personal accounts of hellacious weather - the many folks at the 2011 conference who described a "Hellsapoppin'" night, along with Himmelsbach and Dona Elliot saying the rain was blowing sideways and such.

Bottom Line, I say, is that we keep looking at new areas until we actually find something.

Ulis is now officially a rock star - by his own Elvis impersonation ? His latest icon below!

What next! Ulis finds Cooper bailed with gold bars vs paper money, backed up by R99 and Flyjack ?

Or Sheridan Peterson was Ted Kaczynski's secret brother ?
