I owe Bruce an apology for the above post. I was both incorrect and out of line.

Nice to see things work themselves out...

I just got back Unsure so I'll look into the thread thingy for you possibly tomorrow..still have to unpack and get the house back in order..

Everything went as planned in Tampa..630 feet of canopy installed and inspected (passed) by the city with flying colors..

That's a huge canopy. I was once on a crew erecting a canopy about 200 feet long to cover several railroad cars. They hired a bunch of stagehands - at least ten, and even with a 12 hour day we didn't finish.

It was a hot day, too. Congrats, Shut, on gettin' 'er done.

This was a shipping canopy..it only projects 4 feet off the wall. it's still a lot of work..I took two of my best guys to insure I would make my deadline...below is a short video I took just before leaving..

Dudeman posts about the chutes at DZ -

A pilot chute and a drogue are similar in design and appearance. The difference is in the function. The drogue trails behind something/someone in freefall for the reasons stated above. The pilot chute deploys the canopy. In the 'cutaway' method of emergency procedure, then the reserve would have a pilot chute, and that's what is seen in that last picture you posted.

Again, I would guess that any white material might have come from the dummy reserve.

The pictures in the 'citizen sleuths' link:

In the picture of the canopy laid out on the table, the lines at the near end, the far end is where the pilot chute would be, yet nothing is seen. No pilot chute on that rig.

That bundle of lines between the hardware in the container is a cross connector. The parts of the hardware that can be seen inside the container, those rectangular metal loops, are where the parachute lines attach. That hardware goes through holes in the container fabric, and the other end are those hooks/clips that are seen in other pictures. Those clips attach to the D-rings on the main harness. If one of those attachment points were to fail on opening, you'd lose tension on half of the lines, the canopy would collapse and you'd go in. That cross connector would hold that side of the hardware and prevent that collapse from happening.

Those lines tied to the side of the container is probably something Cooper did in an attempt to tie that to him. That those lines are white, and not pink like the ones on the chute in the picture make me think that they too might be from the dummy reserve.

Expedition Unknown will be airing a show on (TLC) January 11th at 9 pm 8c...

Josh Gates sets off on an expedition to crack the mystery behind the perpetrator of the only unsolved plane hijacking in US history. Picking up where the FBI left off, Josh joins citizen sleuths on the hunt for D.B. Cooper in the Pacific Northwest. He discovers new clues and theories before having the experience of a lifetime, jumping out of plane, just as Cooper did decades ago.

I saw the show.  I have seen many of Josh's shows.  The one on Judy Garlands ruby slippers is a good one too.  And my favorite by him is the "Secret".  About the gems that were hidden all over the place with clues and maps.  Not sure if any have been found since last year?  I was thinking of trying to find the one in NY or St Augustine Fl?  There are still a bunch out there.

57, you gotta check in Darren at the Cooper Vortex. He interviewed folks on the hunt for the gems. It does have a Cooper twist, too.

OK Bruce. Ill look.  Actually, I just sent him a PM.  Saying Hi and asking him about it.  I also followed the Forrest Finn treasure that was found.  I think Forrest left us last year.  Sad. But his treasure was found.  I had the state correct.  Now to find those gems.  Oh, and DB.

Thank you. Apology accepted, sir.
Lovely example of online civility, my holiday heart is growing 3 sizes! I think everyone has had moments of fraying at the edges this year and we all understand occasional emotional explosions, but it's so nice to see people getting that and coming together. I love my various obsessions right now. As esoteric as they may be to some, it's wonderful to have something to distract us from the long-long-ago. 50 years next year, wow. Hope you are all happy and well and had a lovely Thanksgiving.  :) 8) :chr2:
