I would bet a telephoto lens.....wonder what caused the large tree branch to break so high above the ground? just thinking out loud..

all the photo's have a depth perception issue it appears...things look very close that are not..

Maybe Cooper landed in the tree as a no-pull.  Just thinking out loud also.

If you can generate some media interest on this point, it might be productive.  The marina in the channel on the east side of Caterpillar Island might be a good place to start.  Amazon, of DZ fame, might have some suggestions since she lived in her boat at that marina for some time.

There also appears to have been another boat docking area about 1500 feet north of Tina Bar.

Apparently, the tree is a cotton wood that is prone to falling apart according to Tom....that was a quick response from Tom..shot it right out of the sky...

I just reviewed the photos Tom posted and compared them to some others I have. I believe I can actually spot the car from Tom's photo in the overhead shot from the helicopter (SEE BELOW). Indeed, that car is near the intersection of the Angled Road and the Old Gravel Road.

Additionally, the indention in the shoreline does correlate with the 1979 photo but appears to be somewhat more pronounced. I attribute this to a different water level--probably higher in the 1980 photo.

Ok here is another pic where we have the horizontal shoreline as a reference. I rotated the pic to make the shore horizontal, then had to estimate the waters edge through the people. Again using the guy as a reference I have a hard time placing the money more than 6' above that days water level. We should be able to look up the water level for that week right?

Also I also agree with EU about the grass level. It should be used as a 2nd intersecting line of evidence to sort this out.

Tom Kaye

I'm not sure the guy in white you've referenced is actually at the money find spot. It may actually be near the small group, including another guy in white, that are behind the guy in jeans bending over and the person with bare calves showing.

Upon closer review, I do believe Tom identified the money find spot correctly in this photo--meaning near the guy in white kneeling down.

To see how much erosion has taken place you can measure the back of the large building behind the money location 260' is where the OHWM is (ordinary high water mark). the beach used to be way in front of that mark..in 2005 it appears only about 30 feet of beach was visible at the time of the photo..

In the same photo they seem to gloss over the money bag seen against a log just behind the guys/reporters talking. case solved

Palmer might be on site during the picture. a white string line can be seen running down the beach. he used it during his trench digging.

Your arrow is not pointing at a car! I have circled a car, the camper, and a boat in this photo.
