I loved the docu, and I loved being in it!

But there are plenty of outstanding elements of the show to love, especially the heavy screen time of the crew.

1. Tina - extensive interviews. She is great in front of the camera.
2. Bill - extensive interviews. He looks a lot healthier than in the HC docu in 2016.
3. Andy - FINALLY APPEARS, and he ain't dead!
4. Bernie Rhodes - talks a lot about McCoy.
5. Jerry Thomas has extensive screen time.
6. SA Bob Fuhriman - lots of screen time, and is the only FBI agent from the early days of Norjak.
7. Frank Montoya - Gawd does he looks slimy. He's the guy who closed the case as Seattle SAC from 2014-2016
8. Rena Ruddell, Barb's daughter, and lots of her family, too. Plus Ron and Pat Forman.
9. Nick O'Hara, the guy who shot McCoy - lots of screen time talking about that case.
10. Bill Mitchell has plenty of screen time.

The docu covers four suspects: Barb Dayton, Duane Weber, Richard McCoy, and LD Cooper. It features Jo Weber, the Formans, and Marla (of course).

Production values are excellent, and there is a TON of great archival footage to support the whole narrative. As Dower says in his interview, they didn't set out to prove who DB Cooper is. Rather, it is a docu more about belief, and the phenomenon of DB Cooper.

For the record, I DON'T remember saying, "I want to be DB Cooper!" but it's there on film. Hmmm....

One gripe: they reversed the seating, with Mitchell on the starboard side, and Tina and Danny on the port side. Don't know why since the voice-over correctly states the facts of who sat where.

Bruce: You looked a little Luke  Skywalker esque in one of the opening scenes, the elder Jedi Knight in his robe.  Living in the city makes me think that set up with the trailer and the plants is pretty peaceful.

I caught onto the reversed seating too, but I'm guessing most people who don't know the case would not see it.  What did you think about the bomb trigger though?  Did anyone else catch it?  Flo had said Cooper talked about touching two wires together, that is not what was shown in this doc, or what Tina was saying.  I still need to finish the rest though.

Anyone interested in a signed copy can PM. I don't have paypal anymore (someone hacked my account and paypal shut it down  :-\ ), so you'll have to send a check to my dad.

It is. Thanks for the wonderful association to the Jedi's.

My mind didn't flip out on the "bomb trigger" like it did on the reverse seating. But I can see how it makes more sense visually for the general audience to use an image that is recognizable to most folks - especially those of us who watch a LOT of TV and cops shows, etc...

In order to complete a circuit you need to attach "two wires" if it was real or fake but wired like a real bomb you would have a blasting cap that inserts into the dynamite. this has two leads on it and has to have electricity to set it off. this would then set off the dynamite. the cap and battery would be wired together and you could leave one line broken which would keep the cap from going off. you attach the two wires and BOOM..

In one of the documentaries Cooper has a hand held switch! That is not what Tina described. She described Cooper saying: 'if I touch these two wires together' and she said, 'he kept his hand INSIDE the brief case at all times' ... so the docu has it wrong.

I just watched the film. I thought it was well done.

Barb Dayton said she landed in Woodburn, OR. That alone eliminates her as a suspect considering how far south that is.

Bernie Rhodes said the FBI intentionally put the money in bags that wouldn't close and with no handles or anything in order to make it more difficult for Cooper. That's the first time I've heard that. Has that been theorized before?

The bomb was more than likely wired in a parallel circuit. you have a positive and a negative lead off the battery and probably the same for the cap. one wire connects to the blasting cap/detonator while it's likely the second wires from each device was not connected leaving the circuit open or broken. if you were to connect the two open wires you would get a complete circuit and boom. even if the bomb was fake it sound plausible for detonation. it's a very simple electrical configuration.

Dynamite is very stable. it was made to replace nitroglycerin in liquid form that was extremely unstable.

In the documentary "storyville" Tina does say electricians tape but not red. she also uses the term "trigger" for the bomb.

A little late, but hope everyone has had a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving.

We were a little more laid back this year in Tennessee as we did BBQ, chicken strips and beer. We normally have family in, but my dad (at 86 years old) tested positive for Covid last week, so we opted to go small. He lives next door, so I was able to at least take him food. He's fine, just has to stay away from people for a few more days. It's crazy how he has been laying low and caught this thing, but yet I've traveled all over the country including a trip right into the heart of Covid country (NY City) a few months ago and have managed to avoid it to this point. My biggest fear about getting it was that I would give it to him...guess I don't have to worry about that now. At least for a while.

Going to sit down with my daughter in a little while and check out the HBO show on Cooper.

Ariel Store Has New Owners

Galen emailed to say that the Ariel Store ahs new owners and they plan to renovate the old place and turn it into a DB Cooper museum.

Galen was on Ground Zero Radio this week with Clyde Lewis when some callers announced they had bought the tavern: Inva Begolli and Aaron Cash. They said it would be up and running for the 50th with a huge bash planned.

New book by Dorwin schreuder ...

email share:

"It was good to talk to you this afternoon.
As I mentioned, I have two books in print, and am working on the third one, which is a sequel to the second. You can find and order them through my author’s page. The link to the books is:"

"The one titled “Grandpa’s Diary” is non-fiction, and about growing up poor in Montana in the post depression era. But the last two thirds of the book is all true FBI stories. The preface tells why the book was written, and why my grandson is listed as the author/editor. Everything but the introduction is written by me. The second book, “As the Twig is Bent” is a historical work of fiction, putting fictional characters in a true historical setting.

Both books are an easy read wherein the author is not trying to impress the reader using an outlandish vocabulary. Many of my fans span a wide range from junior high to assisted living, because the books demonstrate you can write an adult novel without using complicated vocabulary. Many of Montana’s museums now stock my books for sale."

Dorwin's work is always valuable and worthwhile! Enjoy!

Just finished watching the History Channel episode with Eric that I had recorded. As is pretty typical of these kinds of shows, there was a lot of false suspense to carry you through commercial breaks followed by disappointing reveals and evidentiary let-downs. The only real thing of substance was the DNA, and that turned out to be a dead end. None of this is the fault of Eric. He came across as earnest and knowledgeable, and I am sympathetic to him as I am sure he was disappointed with the results of the investigation especially the DNA stuff.

I'll be watching the HBO doc next.
