I eagerly await your report, G.

I regret that this is coming as late as it is. I would have preferred to do this while Tosaw and other principals were still alive. Some of the principals are still alive, some of the central facts are still intact, and at least one of Tosaw's theories is still very clear: he thought Cooper had placed the money he offered Tina back in his coat pocket. Cooper then landed in the Columbia, 'shed his coat to allow him to swim', and the money in his coat pocket was the money Ingram found on Tina Bar.

One editorial decision I am facing is what to release and what not to release! There are a number of different interests at stake, different people have presented slightly different versions or different stories of the same thing (in the same time frame), etc. We know who the principals were that worked with Tosaw, we know their relationships, but it is also clear that Tosaw's work overlapped other people working trying to recover anything from the Columbia, following the end of the FBI's excavation on Tina Bar. Tosaw and several others conducted their own explorations of Tina Bar itself, beyond diving or raking work in the Columbia! Wingdams in the area of the Ingram find were all explored, several times over, by different people over a  long time frame. I just wish I had started this work back in 2008 -

PS: has anyone here got Tosaw's book and has actually read it?

I have Tosaw's book.  Mine is autographed as well like the others, maybe all of them are.  It is a good quick read, and was written well before many of the suspects came out, the internet, the tie, the DZ, this forum, etc.  So it gives an interesting view that we simply would not get today.  Himmelsbach's book is the same way.  Here are some things I noticed the other day after flipping through just a few pages.  I'm not saying any or even some of this is true, but it is what is in the book.  I bought it a while back just for the serial numbers on the bills.

Cooper said they needed to take off from Seattle by 5PM
There is a list in the back of serial numbers of all the bills, about 55 pages worth
Tosaw said that Cooper said to fly with the flaps down, and it was the pilots who asked him what setting, he replied with 15 degrees, I assumed he had said from the start to use flaps 15
Cooper used the term "interphone" vs intercom or phone as Tina said she thought a passenger would say.
Tosaw says Flo left and took the note to the cockpit, and then Tina saw him put his sunglasses on
Cooper said he wanted his note and envelope back.  I assumed he just passed a note and not a note in an envelope
Alice went to the back of the plane under the pretense of getting a deck of playing cards.  Cooper told her "nevermind about the cards"
There is mention of a frozen nozzle for the fuel, I was under the impression the issue was said to be vapor lock.
Tosaw describes the bank vault where the $200k was and refers to the bills being in packets, and used the terms paper bands and rubber bands as well.
Cooper said he had pills to keep the crew awake
Bill Mitchell said the hijacker's socks or long underwear were showing and they did not match his suit
Part of the matchbook cover read "Earn a high school diploma"

A night river landing in winter isn't certain death, but it's not easy to survive it. If you get wrapped up in the canopy of tangled in the suspension lines it is really hard to extract yourself at night partially submerged.

Yet somehow I think Marty's Dad could have made it. So could Sheridan Peterson. Both tough as hell vets.

Sheridan is one of the few jumpers I have met who have done intentional night water landings. There are so many things that can go wrong.

"Cooper used the term "interphone" vs intercom or phone as Tina said she thought a passenger would say."

Interphone is a  term used a lot in WW2 acft and through the early 1970s. It refers to the amplified audio system that allows crew to talk to such other over head and handsets and also allows the distribution of comm radio audio to multiple crew members.  Later aircraft, such as the F 14,  seemed to use the term Intercom or ICS. The 727 had an interphone system often powered by Gables Engineering Interphone Amplifier. P/N G-708-1 or C3670-4. NSN: 5831-00-306-4654.

It is curious that Cooper used the term Interphone. To me it indicates at least some familiarity with aircraft systems.

How does the Boeing 727 Flight Manual refer to it?

Has anyone listened to Darren's podcast on Reca?

Darren: I've been enjoying your podcasts, and especially your neutrality.  I've had some travel time and finally got to listen the one on Walter Reca.  There were two parts that really jumped out at me.  1.  It sounded like the gentleman on the podcast had been harrassed some by some of the people in Cooperland.  That is disapointing.  Did he expand on this at all?  2.  The real big one was that Reca's friend took his hair and did a DNA test, then sent it to Larry Carr, and apparently got some feedback from Larry.  For an agency that says they are not evaluating any new evidence (except the $ and parachutes), conversing about DNA and comparing it is a big deal.  What's the story behind all of that?  Reca and his friend have told some whoppers, should we believe this part?

I spoke with Dirk Wierenga who is doing the filming for the Reca story. I didn't agree with him on very many things but we had several phone conversations. It appears Mr. Blevins has been going after them just as he did Rackstraw and Marla Cooper. this was some months back. my guess would be Robert being the one he's talking about....Robert goes after anyone who gets too much media attention. when it comes to harassment only one name should come to mind. it's sad, but true...

Dirk contacted me with questions surrounding the SAGE radar. they believe that all the flights out of Seattle head due east toward Walters jump zone.

Thanks man, I appreciate it!

1. Vern Jones and I discussed it a little bit. People doubting your theories and research, and even harassment to an extent is par for the course in Cooperland. Its just an unfortunate fact.

2. Should you believe it? That's up to you.

I tend to believe everyone. I've met Vern Jones, Eric Ulis, Robert Blevins, Bruce Smith, The Formans, Bradley Collins, Bryan Woodruff, and Nicholas Broughton. They all have very different theories and suspects, but speaking to them and hearing their DBC theory firsthand its hard not to believe them. They are all great people who have all been very kind to me, and generous with their time. There might be a detail here or there that I doubt in each theory, but I'm honestly rooting for everyone. Every suspect is a great story, and that's why I started this project. I want to help everyone tell their story and have it all in one place for anyone who is interested to listen to.

Thanks again for listening to the show, I really do appreciate it. Episode 8 with NickyB should be up real soon.

Another Podcast

I just received a link to another DB Cooper podcast. The presenter uses the moniker, "Geoff Carter," to protect his identity, which has a degree of USG sensitivity. He is a former military analyst and uses his skills to investigaste the DB Cooper case. I have been having a year or two's worth of contact with "Geoff" on Cooper, so I know his actual name.

"Geoff Carter" may have posted here under another name - I forget because there are so many and my memory banks are not as robust as they once were... - but he does have a website that is very comprehensive and succinct:

The podcast is from a site called: "Chicago Streets." It's one-hour long:

"Geoff" will be appearing on this podcast for another hour's worth of discussion on his suspect, William J Smith, and the link to Max Gunther, Dan LeClair, and all the rest of the crew in that scenario.

"Geoff" speaks well, and it's an easy listen. Enjoyable, too.

Bruce you should explore the prospect of putting "Geoff" in touch with Darren to be on his podcast. The quality of the host's podcast was terrible and took away from Geoff's story. I'm certain Darren would give this guy a platform that provides an opportunity for him to discuss his research a little more in-depth.

Please try and use the proper topic to post in. I'm guilty as well but we need to start posting correctly or I might as well revert back to a single thread system.

New DB Cooper Show

The Science Channel is airing a show which will feature an episode about DB Cooper. I cannot say too much about it other than it is being filmed in late April and/or early May and will include interviews and research discussions from Tom Kaye, R99 and me.

Once I know more about the air date I'll post something.
