Dropzone has changed its classic page format! No longer searchable?

Has anyone else encountered this, or has a solution for getting back to the classic format?

How do you search posts in the new 'picture' format?

I went to the Dropzone page and signed in.
Once signed in I found a search magnifying glass on the upper right side of the page. I searched Larry Carr and found MANY pages in the DZ.

Maybe it's my age or maybe I just liked the previous face and format before the change, but I don't like the new Dropzone.com web site and find that I now avoid what I used to enjoy. It is not as easy to navigate and a lot of the print is lighter and not as easy to read !  I remember the last change a few years ago and I think I was uncomfortable with it too  It was not as drastic of a change, and I did grow to like it.  I hope the same happens here, but I don;t think it will.

There are several other web sites that I used to go to regularly, that have changed recently,  and I unfortunately now avoid them too.  Change just for change sake is not always good.

The old search engine is gone. This new magnifying glass is a farce. Got three results only in the Cooper thread for the word "Cossey". No results for "himmelsbach" and "fazio". I didnt try the word "Cooper"!   In addition previous Google links to Cooper thread posts are now gone! Pages no longer exist! So Drop Zone may have killed its Cooper thread resource.

Of course, what applies to the Dropzone Cooper thread also applies to all other threads at DZ .... so skydivers are screwed too in the threads they relied on for information!

Very slightly Cooper related, and Melvin Wilson as well: Netflix is reviving Unsolved Mysteries. Hopefully we get a Cooper episode as well as a Wilson episode.

The videos are on YouTube. At least for now. Here is episode 1 & 2 of DB Cooper.

Watch and download before Cosgrove Meurer does a Copyright infringement and the video disappears.

Just hung up with Jerry Thomas today ... Jerry says hello to everyone and best regards. Vicki, Mark, etc. Jerry and I wound up chasing 'who put the stake at the Ingram site at the Fazios, and when' ... simple answer after talking to H and one of the Fazios and others today is: nobody knows!  ;) So let's put that on the shelf for later. Jerry and his wife Shelly are well.

Vicki: Jerry still believes (strongly) Mel was Cooper. Give Jerry a call. Im sure he would like to talk to you - he asked about you ...

Thanks georger!
Jerry called me a few weeks ago and did not leave a message. I called him back and left a message. I have not heard back from him. I will try again this weekend.

HA, HA, HA Update

I just had a delightful conversation with the author of HA, HA, HA, a fellow who calls himself "DB Cooper." He, of course, admitted that he is not the skyjacker, but declined to tell me is "real" name because he wants to maintain his anonymity to protect his business dealings. He apparently is a very successful businessman and a financier.

But the story of HA, HA, HA is fascinating, and is coming forward in Cooper World these days because of a re-vitalization of a deal he made in his book when it was published in 1983. Simply, he is re-advertising a treasure hunt that he built back in the day. Namely, find a "certificate" using seven clues he places in HA, HA, HA, and he will give you 20% of the gross proceeds from the sale of his book, capped at a personal grand total of $200,000.

"DB Cooper" is doing this now as he is re-introducing the book to the public and attempting to foster sales. Back in the mid-1980s, a so-called partner named "Le May" took off with 14,000 copies and didn't share the proceeds as expected. DBC and his old editor, Judi Van Cleve kept 11,000 copies in storage, and now they are endeavoring to sell them. 40 bucks at Amazon.

"DBC" has a new editor, named Diane Dalbey, and her contact info is Signum Book Ltd., PO Box 2069 Mt. Vernon, WA 98273. I have her cell phone and it you would like it please email me, as I won't post it here without her expressed permission.

So a new "Hunt" has been launched. "DBC" said that he will confirm any possible clues that folks send him via Signum, in order to help them on their way to a really "Big Score." One clue is that the certificate is not a piece of paper. Rather, it is an airplane, a "replica-sized" plane according to DBC. I assume it's a model airplane. Perhaps an Remote Control model. That reminds me of our old parachute friend Norman Hayden.

I'll be meeting with "DBC" in Seattle in the near future to get more information on this deal, and I'll keep you posted.

One proviso with the above: most of HA, HA, HA is not about DB Cooper. Rather, only the opening and closing chapters. In that sense it's a lot like Colbert's book on Rackstraw - The Last Great Master Outlaw. HA, HA, HA is more about the personal backstory of who DB Cooper could be and how he came to be a skyjacker.

Thanks, Bruce.

I always thought that HA HA HA was an existing book that was modified to be about DB Cooper.

Did your meeting explain why the Ariel Tavern had so many copies of it for sale?

I kinda got that sense, too, especially from Bryan Woodruff, who carries a copy around as if it was a recent addendum to the New Testament.

But the copies that are for sale were printed in 1983 and look it. They are almost a collector's item on their own. It's fairly well written - I think the author should take full credit for it - and it is well edited, so kudos to Judi Van Cleave. And 25,000 copies printed in the first edition - now that's a author with a lot of confidence AND moolah.

The book is also a testament to the bedrock values of rural Washington timber towns, like Ariel - and Vancouver, where the author grew up. It uses the "n-word," although in an unusual fashion, and has one stark anti-Semitic usage. Both would NEVER pass muster in today's literature.

But the salient feature of the book is the unrelenting dismissive attitude towards the FBI, law enforcement, and most people in positions of power or prestige. It is a full-on diatribe against "The Man," and that sentiment hasn't diminished one whit in Cooper Country since 1971, imho.

As for how the Ariel tavern got so many copies, I think that nefarious partner named Le May dumped them there and "DBC" never bothered to pick them up.
