Apology to Tom Colbert

I would like to retract my recent comments here where I called Colbert a charlatan. Although I strongly disagree with many of his techniques and conclusions in his DB Cooper research, he is not a charlatan.

I think attacking the data vs the person is the best policy..

exactly! Without Tom we might not have all the FBI FOIA files. Thats a huge positive in my book.

Tom is an asset to this community. you call him up, or email him and he's right there. at least he has been for me. I don't agree with his conclusions but he has my respect. he has a lot of power behind him. burning bridges can leave you stuck on an island isolated from everyone..some people out there never fully understand that either...they end up trying to build there own bridge back home but that bridge doesn't help them any longer....

I have been wondering if the FBI will re-open the Cooper case, perhaps bowing to public pressure? The claim they needed to shift or free up manpower resources never was a valid claim. Financial reasons never was valid. I see it as a management issue. It is a little strange for a law enforcement entity to abruptly close a case, just as the technology to deal with the case is finally arriving ... in the age of computers!

The so-called "King 5 Files," are Geoffrey Gray's files. I believe there are about 200 pages in total. GG seems to be making a push to make them public - kind of like starting an open-sourced Citizen Sleuths team.

I began to go through GG's files and they seem to be the ones that are on file here in the DB Cooper Forum vault.

But one page that I have not seen, yet, is the 302 interview with Richard De Cample, the fuel truck driver that Chris Ingalls at King 5 interviewed. I've called De Cample, but to no avail so far.

The only connection between KING 5 and "files" is that the KING 5 website carries a link to GG's files at his True.Ink website.

I believe the files we have are 77 pages, and not 200?

Bruce didn't check that out before reporting?  I'm so surprised.

Hmmm. GG talks about 200 pages, so perhaps there are more to be had at his site.

GG has 179 pages available to the public, currently. The first 77 pages look like what we have already had here at the Forum - crew debriefings, passenger 302s, etc.

The bulk of GG's file is flight management stuff, which in includes the flight path, weather, and similar issues.

It also has a three-page report on Earl Cossey performed by SAs Mathis and Henry, with good ol' John Detlor weighing in at the end.

There is a juicy tidbit on Cossey and Hayden on page #229 (127 of PDF file):
"In May, 1971. NORM HAYDEN, Renton, Washington, purchased a new airplane and needed two parachutes. COSSEY packed two parachutes which were furnished to HAYDEN on or about May 21, 1971. He (Cossey) described these parachutes as back parachutes, commonly referred to as "emergency" parachutes."

This suggests that Hayden bought his two parachutes from Cossey. So, perhaps they were the NB-6 and Pioneer as Coss had stated. However, Hayden told me that he didn't remember where he had bought them. Also, RMB has written that Hayden told him that he bought the two chutes at a military surplus store, I believe.

Remember, both Coss and Norm told me that they had never met the other. This story continues to get stranger.

I just went to the Vault here to see what the difference is between GG's 200 and the DBCF's 77. First, the 302s on the passengers are more complete. But, there are only 19 pages available to read - not the full 77.

Also, how do we print copies of those 19 pages. I wasn't able to do that. Any ideas?

Try "print screen" and paste it to a word document.

I sent you the email that True.Ink sent to me that allows me to access the files. I'd repost it here, but there is no URL that I can see to link.
