Will you have the ONLY I Was Banned/Unbanned At The Ariel Store T shirt Bruce? Is it that you redeemed yourself or were never banned in the first place? ;)

We have a very big storm to keep an eye on down here...winds 145 mph. it doesn't look like it will hit us, but I'm cleaning up the yard, and other things just in case...

Shutter, good luck with this storm.  Do you evacuate during "normal" (whatever that means) hurricanes?

I only evacuate if the status goes beyond a category 1. I'm very close to the Everglades, so this area floods rapidly with hurricanes. the only hills we have are overpasses  :)) :)) :))

Update: it's moving very slow at the moment (3 mph) but gaining power. it now has sustained winds of 150 mph..very large, and dangerous storm...

150? YIKES!

Hurricane Wilma back in 2005 had 125 mph winds. I tried to make it to my moms house driving right when the eye wall hit. a tractor trailer turned over in front of me, and I watched the telephone poles bend over. the rain was so bad, I could only see the white line on the side of the road. I couldn't get into my moms area due to tree's blocking the road, then I got the truck stuck, and me and my dog made a run for it. only had about a quarter mile to go, but of course the dog chased debris, stopped to pee etc.

Hurricane Andrew wasn't as bad in Broward county. as soon as I passed the county line, it looked like a bomb went off. this was several hours after it passed. it had winds much greater than 125. cops wondering around not knowing what to due, cars upside down, boats on the road etc.

You learn very quickly to respect a hurricane once you have been through one...I've been through 5, or 6 I believe. Wilma was the one that woke me up out of all of them...it was only suppose to reach category one, but intensified while crossing the Everglades and became a major hurricane with no time to prepare for it's strength...

My sisters house was right in the eye of Andrew. Her and her husband came here to Tennessee to avoid it. When they returned home, the only damage they had was a broken window. The house next to theirs was completely wiped out.

I've seen this often. for years they thought it was 'mini tornado's" actually, it's micro bursts, or down drafts.

I went to a house years ago, and the hurricane shutters were torn off the walls. all the bolts were bent downwards. the surrounding homes were not damaged.

Storm Update...

The cone of death is now in the path of South Florida. we could get a side portion of the storm if it continues on it's present track, but it's pretty far away for panic.

Saw the aftermath of a microburst at a skydiving boogie one summer. looked like the wind came from 360 different directions originating from a center point. Sturdy metal tent trusses and poles bent in opposite directions within sight of each other.
