I remember a movie being discussed years ago on the DZ. it was around the same time. I don't recall Martin Sheen being in it though..might not be the same movie. not sure..might of been discussed about where Cooper got his name..

I know there has been some speculation regarding North by Northwest's connection to the case. Martin Sheen's Dan Cooper was in an episode of a short-lived sitcom that lasted a single season. I finally found a *extremely overpriced* DVD set online, will have to consider whether it's worth picking up.

YouTube only has one of the episodes. I've hit dead-ends elsewhere looking for it.

Thanks, Shutter. Put an order in, should have it by the end of the month. It should contain the correct episode.

Parachutes

Upon closer examination, it is clear that Flyjack has discovered compelling information concerning Hayden's parachutes. The one returned to him by the FBI seems to be different than the one inspected on the plane by the National Guard in Reno.

I'll start digging into that shortly.

Parachutes

Upon closer examination, it is clear that Flyjack has discovered compelling information concerning Hayden's parachutes. The one returned to him by the FBI seems to be different than the one inspected on the plane by the National Guard in Reno.

I'll start digging into that shortly.

Some things to consider...  For each back rig, there would be three serial numbers involved - one for the harness / container, one for the canopy inside, and one for the pilot chute. (Sport mains do not have packing cards, but emergency bailout rigs do.) The packing card would definitely list the SN for the canopy, then depending on the rigger, might list the SN for the container, and least likely might list the one for the pilot chute. The SN for the container would also be found on the container itself, usually on the pocket that holds the packing card. So is it possible that on the two documents, one has the SN of the container and the other one the SN of the canopy, and it might be the same rig?

-----

A few other things...  Pure speculation on my part, but as I said in the other post, considering the way the FBI deals with evidence, I can't imagine them giving Hayden his other rig back if it was the one left on the plane. As you said, he did take legal action to get it back, and I suppose a judge might order that, but it seems more likely that he would get it back if it was collected but not actually given to Cooper. Funny, he probably paid more in legal fees than it was worth, then he donates it to the museum. Also... There is the other document that lists the 'other' canopy in the back rig left on the plane, the one that is an 'integral part' of the system. That could only be the pilot chute, there is no other possibility, and the size given would have to be a typo, listing the size in feet (') rather than inches ("). But the detail in which it is described, it sounds like they opened the rig and inspected it. So is it known, when they gave Hayden his other rig back, was it opened or was it still packed? Another thing... When the FBI has shown evidence to the press / public, they have shown the front reserve, even let (Kaye?) inspect it. Have they ever shown a back rig? Would they? It seems that other than Cossey, they have never shown anyone the Amboy chute.

I think it's more clerical than anything. look at the way the packing card was filled out, everything is a line off. why would the National Guard feel the need to open the chute after finding it on the plane. it could be worded wrong when they state the SN coming from the card. we haven't read anywhere extra chutes were available, only waiting on two backs and two fronts at different times.

This was a different type of evidence. the was owned evidence. he was paid by Northwest but the FBI didn't want to part with it. I think it came down to a principle more than anything IMO. that chute isn't going to convict anyone. being caught with it would be a different story. things like the ticket stub in his possession or missing chutes, notes and the money would convict him. how can they prove it was given to him or anyone? a lawyer would ask the court to prove it was given to him.

they had to be sued over the money as well. they only needed a couple good bills, the rest is for show.

This is another reason to have the museum to allow it to be opened and checked. it's the only way to find out..

Amboy Chute

It's not the first chute found that was dismissed by them. it could of been discarded since it was of no value. Blevins complains if it isn't then show it..they have a rule that nothing about the case will be discussed. that goes for things like the Amboy chute. they told there findings and a few disagree and demand. it doesn't work like that. you can't ask them about information with any suspect that was dismissed, or any other chute they dismissed. they will stonewall you..

When Kaye was there he didn't ask them about it. only after his invite. they went back to the no information given on a open case clause..I've stated in the past that I wouldn't put it past them to invent the whole story. nobody has ever come forward about the chute. kids found it, dad ran over it with the tractor. several stories revolve around it. the last story Carr gave was it was in a trash pile on the side of a hill. that doesn't match the original story. Carr admitted to wanting to get exposure to the public..that's a perfect thing to kick start the public interest..most think I'm nuts with the theory...
